Discover the Enchanting World of 'The Little Leftover Witch

By admin

The little leftover witch is a charming children's book written by Florence Laughlin. The story revolves around Felina, a young witch who has a problem. While all the other witches in her village have found homes for their leftover magic, Felina still has some magic left over. This leftover magic causes her spells to go haywire, leading to all sorts of mishaps and misadventures. Despite her struggles, Felina remains determined to find a solution. She sets off on a journey to seek the advice of the wise and powerful witch, Befana.

This Halloween-themed story was originally published in 1960, and has just been reissued by Simon & Schuster with new cover art, giving it a new lease on life for 2013 readers. Unlike so many holiday titles, this one has a lot of substance and it explores real issues beyond just the whimsy of Halloween night. Though Felina is a witch, and does seem to have magic powers, her story really reads like an allegory of the experience a child might have in a new foster home. Her magical powers and unusual habits can be read as the misbehavior of a child acting out in an uncertain environment, and her ultimate shedding of her witchy identity seems to represent her acceptance of her new family.

It works very well as a fantasy tale, and I think young readers who have liked reading about Mildred Hubble in the Worst Witch series, and those who have enjoyed Lulu Goes to Witch School will be delighted to make friends with another witch and to follow the story of how she is ultimately adopted into a human family. When Felina, a little witch, breaks her broom on Halloween and can't fly home, she is stuck with the Doon family and their black cat, Itchabody, for an entire year. Although she's homesick and unhappy, the Doon parents and their daughter, Lucinda, do their best to make Felina feel welcome. (And she has no trouble with Itchabody at all ) As time passes, the mischievous Felina learns what it means to be part of a family--and how, with love, she will always belong.

The little witch was worried, too. “I don’t want to stay around here a whole year,” she said. “I can’t stand people!”
The little leftover witch

She discovers that her leftover magic isn't a problem to be fixed but rather a special gift that sets her apart from the other witches. Eventually, Felina arrives at Befana's cottage and shares her story. Befana listens attentively and reveals that she, too, has some leftover magic. She explains that leftover magic is a sign of endless possibilities and potential. Befana encourages Felina to embrace her leftover magic and use it in creative and imaginative ways. With newfound confidence and a deeper understanding of herself, Felina returns to her village. She showcases her leftover magic through dazzling displays and impressive spells. The other witches are in awe of Felina's unique abilities, and they begin to realize that leftover magic is not a curse but a wonderful gift. The little leftover witch is a heartwarming and whimsical tale that teaches children the value of embracing their differences and celebrating their individual strengths. It encourages young readers to be confident in themselves and to find the beauty in their own uniqueness. Laughlin's delightful storytelling and imaginative world-building make this book a delightful read for children of all ages..
