According to local folklore, this curse dates back to the 17th century when the island was inhabited by the Kalinago people, also known as the Caribs. It is said that the Caribs were a peaceful people who lived harmoniously on the island until European colonizers arrived. The curse is believed to have been cast by the Kalinago chief after his tribe was nearly wiped out by the colonizers. In his dying breath, the chief cursed the island, vowing that the colonizers would never find peace or prosperity on Saint Kitts. Since then, the island has faced numerous misfortunes and hardships.
