PAGAN ALTAR is arguably the very best band in the ENTIRE world that have flew under the radar for far too many years. It gives me great pleasure to announce this amazing EP release. This N.W.O.B.H.M. band is still going strong as they have wrote a mountain of music that has since been released over the years on their very own label. These are the oldest known recordings to exist dating all the way back to 1978! These are demo recordings and they didn't properly record a few of these other songs until later on. These demo recordings are the birth of what I believe is one of the very best bands ever existing. This album has atmosphere written all over it and there's no one that remotely sounds like PAGAN ALTAR. Bands and people today are just discovering these sounds for the first time and now they influence a ton of music that's being written today in the metal world. The CD version has been re-mastered to scrub and preserve this recording to the best possible sound that we can deliver. This has only been released on VINYL until now.

Currently listening to Pagan Altar - The Time Lord CD. Originally released in 2004 on (I believe) I Hate Records, I have the Shadow Kingdom Records 2012 reissue. They typically get lumped in with the doom metal bands, but to me this disc has a strong hard rock sound to it. More of an EP than an album these five songs were recorded between 1978 and 79. I believe these are the band's oldest surviving recordings but don't quote me on that.

That sounds right as Pagan Altar was formed in 1978 by father and son Terry and Alan Jones. They're definitely a different kind of doom metal as the sub-genre really hadn't been defined at that point. To me they sound almost medieval. They get put in with the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal despite not having any officially released music until the 90's or later.
Generally the NWOBHM band associated with doom metal is Witchfinder General.

Pagan Altar are among my favorite bands ever! I don't consider myself a Black Sabbath or Doom metal fan, with the exception of Candlemass, but Pagan Altar's primeval, medieval (as Delmarva said) occult heavy-doom metal is top notch! Too bad I didn't manage to see them playing live when they come to Greece, just before Terry Jones passed away.
Few months ago, they released a compilation (The history of Pagan Altar), featuring some pre-Pagan Altar tunes.

Not a Black Sabbath fan. This can't be.
It could be an age thing. You're probably much younger than me and didn't come up in the 70's like I did, so you're tastes may go more for 90's and beyond metal of the more extreme variety.
I guess my Black Sabbath wall kinda let's you know where I stand.

Doom Metal, when done well is the pure essence of heavy metal in my opinion. I'll never claim to be a huge fan of the entire sub-genre, but there are a few bands that I absolutely love. Black Sabbath of course, Witchfinder General, Trouble, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre, Count Raven, Sleep and Pagan Alter come immediately to mind.

The first Saint Vitus albums is a masterpiece of Doom. At only five songs you'd think it might be an EP, but it's just a bunch of long tracks. Very much an early Sabbath sound but a lot druggier if that's possible.
Originally released in 1984. My 2006 reissue would be great if they hadn't given the vinyl a stupid looking label.

@LordIxion I used to have Violenece & Force. One of the many albums that has vanished from my collection over the years.

@Delmarva Is that the MCA Years box set you're talking about? Those first three Tygers of Pan Tang albums are great. That is a really cool Sabbath wall by the way. I've recently listened to a few of the deluxe Sabbath reissues, some of them are now on my ever growing want list.

Currently listening to the latest Incantation album - Sect of Vile Divinities. From 2020 on Relapse Records, my copy is on olive green and mustard galaxy merge colored vinyl. Which sounds cooler than just saying it's on the ugliest shade of green imagineable. Decent death metal album. Incantation are one of my favorites as far as death metal goes. The last few albums they've done have been pretty great.

Black Sabbath - Sabotage. I have a 1975 U.S. pressing that I believe I picked up at a record show years back. This is summer album for me and it gets plenty of spins this time of year. Hole in the Sky is an epic album opener.

Tygers Of Pan Tang - The MCA Years

The only drawback to the set is that the discs are packaged in Eco-Sleeves of the cheap cardboard style, so sliding the discs in and out is an opportunity for scratching, although mine all look fine after a few years of use. I just bought those inner sleeves that you see in the above pic this past week. They aren't a perfect fit, but they work and get the job done. The one great thing about Eco-Sleeves is that look exactly like miniature album covers. Caroline Records did a great job of reproducing the original covers right down to the last detail. Each album includes about four bonus tracks from singles released at the time.

Great package for so little money. Five discs in total with an outstanding booklet written by Malcolm Dome. Yes, the fourth album, "THE CAGE" is pretty lame. The fifth album is a collection of their live appearances on the BBC's In Concert and Friday Rock Show series along with their live set from the Reading Festival in 1982.

Sabotage is an amazing album, Jimbob. Start to finish not a weak song in the bunch. Megalomania kinda blew my mind the first time I heard it. Still does in all honesty.

Just made this CD-R of the newish German reissue of Diamond Head's White Album, aka Lightning To The Nations. The original 1980 album was actually never named and was really just a private press demo album in a plain white sleeve with a plain white record label. hence the name "The White Album". Fans also started calling it "Lightning To The Nations" as that was the first song on Side A.
It's become something of a NWOBHM holy grail over the years and has been reissued many times with various mixes over the years by multiple record companies.

I sourced this from the most recent High Roller Records 2XLP reissue which includes a second LP of the five singles and EP's that they released over the next two years between '81 and '82.
If you go looking for the album, you want to avoid the one called "Lightning To The Nations 2020". That's a brand new recording featuring the original guitarist and three new bandmates. It sounds pretty good, but it's not the same recording by any stretch of the imagination.
