To mark the 100 Years of Magic Celebration, which in turn marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Walt Disney, Walt Disney World created a new park icon for the Disney's Hollywood Studios that stands proudly at the end of Hollywood Boulevard, in front of Mann's Chinese Theatre — a giant Sorcerer Mickey Hat.

ATTRACTION

The Sorcerer Mickey Hat — The icon at the end of Disney's Hollywood Studios' Hollywood Boulevard is a 122 feet tall Sorcerer Mickey Hat. Built to represent "the magic of show business and the entertainment wizardry of Disney" the new icon was formally unveiled on September 28, 2001, as Walt Disney World kicked off its 100 Years of Magic Celebration. Made from fiberglass and shaped like the blue and gold wizard-style hat worn by Mickey in the animated classic “Fantasia,” the hat weighs 156 tons and is decorated with glittering moon and star shapes. A giant Mickey hand is tipping the hat, which rests on two stylized Mickey ears. Underneath the hat is a major Disney pin station.

It can hold 444,744 gallons of water.

Six stars and two moons adorn the hat.

Paint Job: The hat is painted with a custom technique called “chameleon paint,” which shifts color as guests move around it. The hat required enough paint to cover 500 Cadillacs.

The Mickey Ears feature a new special effect called “Light Ribbons,” which change color and sparkle with internal pixie dust lighting.

Holding it All Together: There are 13,493 bolts that hold the hat together; 26,986 washers; and 17,000 feet (or 57 football field) of underground utility piping.

Reviews for "The Science Behind Mickey Mouse's Magical Hat Tricks"

1. Jane - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the Mickey Mouse magic hat. I thought it would be a fun and interactive toy for my child, but it ended up being very cheaply made. The hat barely fit on my child's head and the stitching started to unravel after just a few uses. The magic tricks included were also very basic and not very impressive. Overall, I feel like I wasted my money on this product.
2. Mike - 1 star - I bought the Mickey Mouse magic hat for my niece and she was not at all interested in it. The tricks included were very outdated and not engaging for a child in today's age. The quality of the hat was also poor, with loose threads and flimsy construction. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking for a fun and entertaining toy for their child.
3. Amanda - 2 stars - The Mickey Mouse magic hat was a huge disappointment for my son. The hat itself was too small for his head, making it uncomfortable to wear. The magic tricks included were also very basic and he quickly lost interest. I expected more from a Disney product, but unfortunately, this one fell short. I would not purchase this again.
4. Jeff - 1 star - The Mickey Mouse magic hat was a complete waste of money. The hat didn't fit properly and kept falling off my child's head. The magic tricks included were also very poorly explained and difficult for a young child to understand. I was expecting a much better quality product from Disney. Save your money and skip this one.
