But.. as far as total tear down- not a job I would do. Too many small springs, nasty job, and a bunch of sealant holding it together, which must be replaced.

My last one had a Sealand China bowl in it, and I could just take a cover off to access all the major working parts. However, if it is this bad, I might just take your advice and get a full replacement.

The Galaxy, Startlite, Bravura and Aurora all do have the slot, though.

Start by making sure the blade slot is clean. Toilet paper in there can keep it partially open. Also make sure the hold down bolts aren't overtight. If they are, it can bind on the blade.

If it has to come out: There are two nuts that have to come off the hold down bolts. One is accessable over top of the dump foot pedal. The other is behind the potty about 180 degrees around the pooper hole from the first bolt. It's easiest if you use an open ended wrench on those nuts. Get those nuts off, disconnect the water line and the whole potty lifts right out. Keep it level until you get it outside since there is water in the plumbing up inside the back of the toilet.

Flip it over and access to everything is fairly straightforward from there.

If you're like me, while it's off, change the big rubber closet flange seal out with a new one so you won't have to worry about that later.

When you put it back in, put thread tape on the water line threads or you'll likely be back there fixing that leak 2 days from now. If you're in tight quarters, it's much MUCH easier to put the thread tape on the threads BEFORE you put the toilet back in the RV. Don't ask me how I know that.

I was able to buy a seal kit for mine last year.

But, some are electing to replace the old units with new ones as a few parts for the old ones can approach the cost of a new model.

On edit- I should add that the only "drop in" replacement for a Starlite/Galaxy is the Thetford Bravura, due to the bolt pattern, and the water hookup will be a bit different, though easily fixed with a 1/2" close nipple and a 1/2" x 1/2" flex faucet connector.
Other models can be made to fit, but the floor flange has to be turned for them.

It does have the slotted gate that moves sideways when you step on the pedal. I didn't notice problem until after a few trips, so it is quite possible that there is something in there.

is the consesus that if I can't get it cleared out it is cheaper and easier, if not better to replace this one with something else? It is a nice enough toilet for all that is worth, I am not sure I could get a Sealand like in the old one towork in this area. We have a side by side bathroom with shower on one side of hallway and toilet and sink on other side.
