Santa Claus is Pagan Too (Emerald Rose Cover) By Ralph Puma

When I first heard Emerald Rose’s Santa is Pagan Too, I was unbearably excited to cover it. As a thank you for all of those who have been along with me on this journey (and to attract some new friends) I am offering it up for free on everything. I’m going to be rolling out a lot of new music next year, have a goal to film my first music video, I may even dare to be “that guy” and claim 2022 as my year. It is my Jesus year, in honor of the sun king’s season. 33.

I haven’t released any new music since Stop The CIty’s EP in 2013. Thats two unreleased albums that have never really made it out. I’ve been recording with John Black And Carl Bauer A lot and I sent over a bedroom recording I did of this song to John on Garage Band, He transformed it into something better than I could have even anticipated and I was already excited having heard his mixes on my new music.

Christina happened upon this EMERALD ROSE song during a week we were discussing “branding” and “marketing” ideas. Christmas as a concept is one of the most successful brands/rebrands to ever exist. Christmas has many faces, many ideas tie themselves to it, but we are going back to the old ways with this song.

I very much relate to Hawkeye (My new personal favorite Christmas watch through, only second to the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia christmas special) and his perspective about his branding issues. I’ve always complained about having to do covers. I don’t like the whole having to be a “brand” thing currently being tied to being successful. I am not some definable being willing to shove itself into any box. Yeah, I study the occult, yes, before it was cool. Yeah I play pop punk and emo, which a few months back I was angry at the car radio internally screaming “NOW is when it’s popular again?”— and Yeah I want to make entertaining movies that are accessible to mainstream viewers that subvert social norms, what filmmaker doesn’t?

But me as a personality? As a Brand? I’d rather remain hidden.

I don’t know why. I have nothing to hide. I don’t want to be show-y about the things I make, but want to live off of making them. Figure that one out. Go read/listen/watch any marketing thing and they pretty much laugh at that perspective. I’m going to figure out this problem, I’m aware of it, so now I’m obsessing— I’ve listened to a couple dozen “How to succeed at social media AND be authentic podcasts.” They all try to sell me more classes. Which ties back to my upcoming documentary idea I’m throwing around about cults. Everything is a cult. We’ll pick that back up again soon.

I have worked very hard to get secure and find myself in an empathetic, sometimes cynical, mostly hopeful place. I am absent-minded at times and far from perfect. I can be quite dumb and not pick up on things right away. I battle with depression, but it’s beginning to get annoying and a bit of running or working out tends to clear that problem up pretty quickly, I’ve learned. I have no idea what’s next and I couldn’t be in a better position. I have the courage to overcome all of the things I fear and embody the avatar of who I actually want to be. Otherwise what was reading all of that Green Lantern for? Do not bring up the movie.

TL:DR- HAPPY HOLIDAYS, HAPPY YULE, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! There’s been a lot of muck, but if you’re reading this YOU are still alive and besides the abnormal human social constructs the Earth is pretty beautiful. Go live in it some more and find new ways to take care of it. I’ve certainly been trying.

Emerald Rose - Santa Claus Is Pagan Too

{Chorus}
Oh, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

He's got that Buddha belly
And his pop's the Holly King
You've dressed him in that British Coat
The cap's a Nordic thing
You took the horns right off his head
And stuck them on his deer
But he still flies high like Jupiter
With a belly full of beer

{Chorus}
Hey, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

Now history says Christ was likely
Not a Capricorn
But if you want to share our Yule
We don't care when he's born
Come celebrate the dawning
Of the sun king's bright rebirth
And if you practice what you preach
We'll all have peace on earth

{Chorus}
Hey, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

Now, Santa's way more jolly
Than most Christians would require
And if he weren't so busy
He'd be dancing 'round this fire
Yeah, you can call it Christmas
You've got us way outgunned
But just you wait 'til Beltaine
Then we'll see who's havin' fun!

{Chorus x2}
Hey, Santa Claus is Pagan too
Just like all the rest
And if you are a merry witch
He'll bring you all the best
So get that star up on the roof
And bake those cookies too
Cause Christmas time is really Yule
And Santa's Pagan too

2. Sarah - 1 star - "Magic 30 Black Lotus" was a complete waste of time for me. The writing was mediocre at best, filled with clichés and poorly constructed sentences. 3. Emily - 2 stars - I had high hopes for "Magic 30 Black Lotus" but was ultimately disappointed. The dialogue was stilted and unnatural, making it hard to follow conversations or understand character motivations. The author seemed more focused on descriptive paragraphs that dragged on unnecessarily instead of progressing the plot. The lack of character development made it hard to root for anyone, and the romance felt forced and shallow. Overall, this book didn't live up to its potential, and I wouldn't read anything else from this author.
4. Michael - 2 stars - "Magic 30 Black Lotus" had an interesting premise, but the execution fell flat. The writing style was unengaging, filled with passive voice and repetitive phrases. The pacing was inconsistent, making it hard to stay invested in the story. The magical elements felt forced and poorly explained, leaving me confused and unsatisfied. The ending was rushed and left several loose ends. While there were some redeeming qualities, they weren't enough to salvage the overall reading experience.
