Product Reviews of Dashing Diva Magic Off and Kiss Glue Off (and acetone in general)

TLDR: If my nail extensions are lifting, especially at the cuticle, applying any acetone-based product would remove them in one piece. The speed of removal depended more on the amount of lifting, not the removal product itself. Peel-off base coast not required.

So like a lot of people, I want to reduce the amount of time I spend removing nails, and sometimes I'd like to keep the nail in one piece in case I want to wear it again or just keep it for the sake of nostalgia. I'd seen reviews of Jello Jello peel off base and one step remover all over the place, but I didn't really see any place to buy it in the US (I'll admit I didn't look super hard). I wanted to see if there was anything similar that was easier to get my hands on, and this is what I tried:

  • 100% acetone: Available at Sally's, Target, local beauty supply store
  • Dashing Diva Magic Off: Purchased at Sally's
    • According to the Sally's website, the main ingredient is acetone
    • According to the Bed Bath and Beyond website, the main ingredient is acetone

Over the past few weeks I've been testing different removal methods on both acrylic nails and Gel-X nails. I would always apply the product underneath the lifted nail.

    • Mid-December: Applied Gel-X nails on both hands, without peel-off base coat
      • December 31st: Applied 100% acetone under lifted nails, successfully removed 5 of them in one piece
        • If nails weren't already lifted, I had to file the side wall and cuticle area a little bit to create some lift, then apply the acetone.
        • Removal took about 2 hours because most nails didn't have any lifting. After removing the nails on my left hand, I got tired and filed down and soaked off the nails on my right hand.
        • Mid-January: Applied Gel-X nails on my left hand, using peel-off base coat
          • Different nails had different amounts of base coat, so they had different amounts of lifting
          • Throughout the week, 3 nails popped off without any acetone product due to too much base coat
          • 5 Days later: Applied Dashing Diva Magic Off to remaining two nails
            • Removal of the 4th nail took 2 seconds due to extreme lifting
            • Removal of the 5th nail took 2 minutes
            • Mid-January: Applied Gel-X nails on my right hand, without peel-off base coat
              • Feb 4th: One nail popped off while I was doing yard work, rest of nails had some lifting
              • Feb 4th: Applied Kiss Glue Off to remaining 4 nails
                • Removal took about 10 minutes
