The Magic Mixlings Cauldron: A Catalyst for Spellbinding Adventures

By admin

The magic mixlings cauldron is a fascinating and enchanting item. It is said to possess incredible powers and is a must-have for any aspiring magician or witch. This magical cauldron has been passed down through generations and holds the secret to creating extraordinary potions and spells. The cauldron is made from an ancient combination of metals and alloys, each chosen for their unique properties and abilities to enhance magical energies. It is said to have been forged in the depths of the enchanted forest and imbued with the essence of the mystical creatures that inhabit it. To use the magic mixlings cauldron, one must first gather the necessary ingredients and place them in the cauldron.

How To Choose Your Pads

WOOL PAD - highly aggressive pads used for cutting or heavy compounding and removes extreme swirls or oxidation on very hard paint. It removes heavy oxidation much better than foam pads and generates less heat resulting in cooler surface. That said, wool is also safer to use on heat sensitive parts of your car such as bumpers and spoilers. The caveat is that it can leave buffer trails if you are not skillful enough.

CUTTING PAD - used for non-agressive cutting (moderate cut compared to wool pads). Use for removing buffing swirls or trails, oxidation and scratches.

POLISHING PAD - used for paint cleaning, remove swirl marks, light scratches, fine sanding scratches, and other defects in your car's paint.

FINISHING PAD - provides very little or no cut. Use for applying pure polish, wax, glazes, and sealant without marring the paint and produce a high gloss show car shine finish.

When choosing the proper pad for cutting or polishing, always make sure you match the aggressiveness of the compound/polish you are using with the aggressiveness of the pad. A mismatched combination creates unneeded work and waste your time and product, so make sure you have the right pad and polish for the job.

GENERAL RULE: Cut with wool pads, finish with foam pads.

PAD FACE AND SIZE EXPLAINED

FLAT FACE

Most popular version, it works at the highest efficiency for cutting and polishing paint surfaces

WAFFLE FACE

The waffle-wave design reduces heat and speed-up the air flow to cool the pad against overheating the surface.

FOAM PAD SIZE DIFFERENCE

8" Ø - For maximum buffing coverage and efficiency; best for high production volume.

6" Ø - Most versatile size for buffing and achieve the best finish.

3" Ø - For hard-to-reach areas such as headlight and spot buffing.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PRO AND PREMIUM SERIES

Use this chart merely as a guide. Comprehensive compounding and polishing requires professional knowledge. Always check and follow the instructions of the manufacturer and compound's directions to avoid damaging your paint. And do not forget to clean your pads regularly after using to prolong its life.

Compounding with Buff Magic and our Polisher

Start by setting up your polisher with a clean wool Buff Magic Pad. These wool pads are more aggressive and work in connection with our Buff Magic compound very well. Regardless if the pad is brand new or used and cleaned we want to fluff it and knock out any extra fuzz with our pad fluffing brush.

We will work in small 2-foot square areas at a time and move on as we finish each area.

Using your chip brush we want to apply a series of X’s to the surface. Do not apply the product to the pad as this will cause premature overloading and clumping of the pad. Once the product is on the surface place the pad face on the surface and turn on the machine. We want to start at a speed setting of 3.

The reason we start with the pad on the surface before turning it on or off, this helps reduce slinging and mess of the product.

As soon as the machine is on, we want to keep it moving using the following overlapping pattern. You do not want to apply a lot of pressure. On a horizontal surface, the weight of the machine is enough. On a vertical surface, you want to apply light pressure. Once we have done that pattern, we will do it again in the opposite direction. You should slowly move through this pattern set a couple of times over 2-3 minutes. As I go into the last pass of the pattern I like to speed up the tool to a 4 or 5. Remember to turn the tool off before picking it up.

Now use a microfiber towel to remove all the haze and excess material. If the surface has that showroom shine you are looking for then you are all set to go on to your next area. If not, you have a deeper level of oxidation and you may have to repeat these steps a few more times.

When I go to my next area I like to overlap the last area by about 6 inches to make sure I do not miss any spots. Also, I make it a habit of fluffing the pad between each area. This will help keep the pad for getting to matted down and stop working.

Here are a couple of more tips and pitfalls to avoid:

  • Do not use too much product, less is more
  • Once the pad has been primed, do not apply the product directly to the pad.
  • Always work a small section at a time and remove excess compound immediately

Removing oxidation and bringing out a showroom shine will enhance the beauty and value of your boat. Don’t forget once you are done you sill still need to put a protective coating on the surface to prevent premature oxidation in the future. With a little time and patience, you can detail like the pros.

Until next time keep your boat CLEAN-N-SIMPLE!

One of the questions I get asked the most is what is the proper procedure for compounding using Buff Magic on the boat.

So let's take a look at what we need and how to do this. Before we begin make sure you have:

  • Buff Magic
  • Dual Action Polisher w/ Wool Compound Pads
  • Pad Fluffing Brush
  • Chip Brush
  • Microfiber Towels

Learn How To Buff Using a Rotary Polisher!

Start by applying Buff Magic to the surface you’re working on. It’s best to work in moderate temperatures and out of direct sunlight. Make sure the pad is clean by using a stiff brush or spur to scour the top of the pad. NOTE: The Polisher should be on lowest speed setting for this step. That will remove any loose debris and prevent scratches in the surface. Before turning the machine on, spread the compound with the pad. Next, with the pad still touching the surface, turn the speed setting to 1600 RPM and start the machine.

As you work the Buff Magic in, keep the machine moving in an overlapping up and down / left and right pattern. This will keep the surface temperature from becoming too hot and work the area evenly. As the Buff Magic begins to break down and the color disappears, turn up the speed on the machine to 2600 RPM to emphasize the polishing stage of Buff Magic. This will result in a much deeper shine and smoother surface. Once the product has been completely broken down a shiny, oily haze will remain. Remove that with a clean Microfiber Towel. Use a little water if necessary as the leftovers can be difficult to remove in high heat. Your surface should now have a great reflection and be ready for wax! Repeat the process over the rest of your boat, taking your time to ensure proper technique and coverage. You’ll be amazed at the results when you do.

You may have heard that a Rotary Polisher can burn or leave swirls in your finish. While this is true, both of these issues are avoidable with a little diligence and practice. The keys to using a Rotary are to keep the pad moving and to keep the pad flat. As long as you can do those two things, you’ll master the tool in no time.
