Magic
Happens
Whoa.

I can hear you but I won t Some look for trouble While others don t There s a thousand reasons I should go about my day And ignore your whispers Which I wish would go away, oh oh. Every turn I take Every turn I take Every trail I track Every trail I track Every path I make Every path I make Every road leads back To the place I know where I cannot go Where I long to be.

‘Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah’ Line Removed From ‘Magic Happens’ Parade at Disneyland

The “Magic Happens” Parade returned to Disneyland Park this afternoon and the line of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” was noticeably missing from the finale of the show.

The line, which is also the title of the song originally composed for the controversial Disney film, “Song of the South”, was perhaps most widely recognized as part of the Splash Mountain attraction based on the film. It has been replaced at the end of the “Magic Happens” parade with the line, “think of the happiest things,” from the song “You Can Fly” featured in Disney’s “Peter Pan”.

At the time, Disney released a statement regarding the removal of the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song stating, “The removal of the song from Downtown Disney’s background music is part of a continuous process to deliver an environment that features stories that are relevant and inclusive.”

Known as the theme song of Splash Mountain, “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” has been the subject of critique given the racist undertones of the film it was based on. In fact, “Song of the South” has been locked in the Disney vault since the 1980s due to its idyllic portrayals of Southern plantation life in the late 1800s Reconstruction Era. The song “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” itself was likely influenced by the chorus of the pre-Civil War folk song “Zip Coon”.

Current reports indicate that Disneyland Resort may be aiming to permanently close Splash Mountain in May 2023. The Walt Disney World version of Splash Mountain closed forever in January 2023 and the reimagining of the attraction as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is already underway. Check out our complete history of Splash Mountain at Disney Parks for a fuller history of the attraction.

Aside from a minor costume and choreography refresh, the removal of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” from the finale of the “Magic Happens” parade was the most noticeable change from its 2020 version. Watch the full updated version below:

“Magic Happens” will be performed at Disneyland Park twice each day at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

I was really disappointed with the finale song of "Magic Happens". It lacked the energy and catchy melodies that I had come to expect from Disney parades. The lyrics were also quite generic and didn't add much to the overall experience. I felt that the performance was lackluster and didn't do justice to the grandeur of Disney. Overall, it left me feeling underwhelmed and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
2. John - 3/5
While I didn't absolutely hate the finale song of "Magic Happens", I can't say that I loved it either. It felt like a missed opportunity to create something truly memorable. The composition was average, and the lyrics were forgettable. I expected a lot more from Disney, especially when it comes to their magical parades. The performance was decent, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me. Overall, it was just an average finale song that didn't live up to the Disney magic.
3. Sarah - 2/5
I was quite disappointed with the finale song of "Magic Happens". It felt like a generic pop song that lacked the Disney charm. The melody was forgettable, and the lyrics were cliché and predictable. I was expecting something more magical and enchanting, but this song fell flat. The performance was decent, but it couldn't save the lackluster composition. Overall, I felt let down by Disney, and I wouldn't recommend the finale song of "Magic Happens" to fellow Disney fans.
