This innovative spray provides instant and temporary coverage, allowing users to extend the time between colorings. With its quick and easy application, L'oreal Magic Retouch Spray is a convenient solution for anyone looking to refresh their hair color without undergoing a full hair dyeing process. The spray is designed to match various hair colors, ensuring a seamless and natural-looking blend with existing shades. Its long-lasting formula ensures that the coverage stays intact until the next shampoo, allowing users to confidently go about their day with no worries of root or gray hair peeking through. One of the key features of L'oreal Magic Retouch Spray is its precision applicator, which allows for targeted and controlled application.

I purchased this to try for events or when I had something on to attend in between salon visits to get my roots coloured. I have dark brown hair and white regrowth, it stands out as it’s right down the part of my hair. I found the cool dark brown matched really well and was easy to apply and covered most of the hairs. The only downfall for me was I felt that it left a gritty/tacky feel to the roots and when I’ve used it I’ve wanted to wash it out as soon as possible. Other then that I would highly recommend for us in between salon visits or colouring your hair at home.

My usual salon offers a root touch up service where your roots can be dyed literally down your centre parting and you have the choice of either paying for a wash and blow-dry or going home and washing it off yourself. Because of my grey hair I need to colour my hair approximately every 4 weeks in order to cover my regrowth - it is very time consuming and being a working mum sometimes I just can t afford the time to do so.

One of the key features of L'oreal Magic Retouch Spray is its precision applicator, which allows for targeted and controlled application. This means that users can selectively cover only the areas they need, avoiding unnecessary product buildup and ensuring a more natural result. The spray also dries quickly, making it ideal for on-the-go touch-ups.

little white truths

This product was sent to me for review and I was excited to try it because I do have quite a few grey hairs these days but I've been too lazy to dye them.

The problem with dyeing your hair is that you need to wash it, apply the colour and then wait for it to develop before stepping under the shower a second time to wash it out. The whole process takes an hour at least, and I have two toddlers so I have neither the time nor the energy for all that.

Indeed, this product sounded like a god-send and I couldn't wait for it to show up. As soon as it arrived, I sprayed my greys with it at the earliest opportunity.

I'm pleased to report that it works. Problem is, it's dried out my scalp and given me dandruff, so there goes that.

Mind you, I haven't seen anyone else complain about dandruff (see eg the reviews on beautyheaven), so perhaps it's just me.

L'Oreal claims/product details:

  • Perfectly covers grey roots in seconds
  • Perfectly blends in with your hair colour (matches 85% of hair colours)
  • Dries in 1 minute
  • Water resistant
  • No transfer: lasts until shampooed out
  • Housed in a pinpoint micro-diffuser spray bottle for even application
  • Available in five shades, from light blonde to black
  • Free of ammonia, peroxide and synthetic dyes
  • RRP $15.95 AUD for 75ml, but do shop around

This product is ideal for those who can't be bothered dyeing their hair or who don't want to visit the hairdresser every six weeks to get their grey roots dyed. That is, it's ideal if it works for you without drying your scalp out, which unfortunately it's done for me.

You spray it along your roots to conceal grey hairs and it does do this, although in my case I need to apply quite a bit to build the colour and get it to cover the grey enough that it's no longer noticeable (I have dark brown hair and the shade I have is Dark Brown).

It's easy to apply but I often wind up with brown dots on my forehead that look like freckles (maybe one or two dots per application), so I need to clean those off and this can upset my makeup. For this reason I've learned to apply this first and my makeup second.

I've seen some people say that this product doesn't last well on them, and while I don't have that problem (perhaps because my hair is dry so it 'clings' to product like this), what I can say is that it has given me a dry, itchy scalp and also dandruff (sorry for that detail) within only a few uses.

Indeed, I have an itchy scalp as we speak so I've had to stop using the product for that reason. Worth noting is that I haven't had dandruff for over a decade now and this is the only haircare product I've changed recently so I know it's responsible. Plus my scalp is only dry and itchy in the areas I've been applying it, which confirms that it's the culprit.

I also don't like the finish this product leaves on my hair: it's like a thick, sticky hairspray and my hair feels yuck to the touch where I've applied it, plus it looks dull and lifeless in those areas.

Overall I think this product works and it's an excellent idea, but it's not perfect and I'll have to stop using it now that I've tested it because it has dried out my scalp.

Reviews for "The ultimate solution for busy women: Llreal magic retouch spray"

1. Sarah - 2/5 - I was really disappointed with the L'Oreal Magic Retouch Spray. First of all, the color did not match my hair at all. I have medium brown hair, and I bought the shade that was supposed to be a match, but it was way too dark. It looked like I had randomly sprayed a different color onto my roots. Secondly, the spray made my hair feel dry and stiff. It lacked the natural movement and texture that my hair usually has. Overall, I found the product to be ineffective and not worth the money.
2. John - 1/5 - I regret purchasing the L'Oreal Magic Retouch Spray. It was a waste of my money. The spray nozzle was defective, and the product came out in uneven spurts, resulting in blotchy and inconsistent coverage. Moreover, the color did not blend well with my natural hair color. Instead of blending seamlessly, it looked like I was trying to paint over my roots with a completely different shade. I ended up having to wash my hair and start over with a different root touch-up solution. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
3. Emily - 3/5 - While there are some positives to the L'Oreal Magic Retouch Spray, overall, I was not impressed. The color match was decent, and it did cover my visible roots, but the problem was its lasting power. It claims to be a temporary root touch-up solution, but within a few hours, it had begun to fade and transfer onto my hands and clothing. It simply did not stay in place as long as I had hoped. Additionally, I found the texture to be quite sticky and uncomfortable. I may consider using it in a pinch, but I wouldn't rely on it for long-lasting results.
