Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, later known as Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, was an Australian children's book illustrator and author. She was born on June 9, 1888, in Carlton, Victoria, Australia. Outhwaite is best known for her enchanting illustrations of fairies and magical creatures. Ida Rentoul Outhwaite was born into a creative family. Her father, Reverend James Outhwaite, was an artist and photographer, and her mother, Annie Isobel Rentoul, was a skilled painter. Growing up in an artistic household, Ida developed a passion for drawing and painting from an early age.

I still remember walking into a bookstore in San Francisco and finding a large clothbound volume called simply Fairyland, by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite 1888 1960.
