I wrote a bit about this in EPFE the other day but wanted to expand on it a little more in a thread.
Replaying Shadow Dragon for the first time since release, I came across a story I'd forgotten. Upon losing her chance of happiness with Camus, Princess Nyna tells Marth the story of Artemis' Curse. Princess Artemis loved the hero Anri, but because he was below her station, they couldn't be together in the end. In her sadness, Artemis placed a curse the Fire Emblem. When the Fire Emblem changes hands, says Nyna, "it will be the death of love."
In Shadow Dragon it's quite clear when the curse repeats: Nyna tells the story in response to losing Camus, and the game's finale, which is otherwise about the love between Marth and Caeda, will be renamed "Artemis' Curse" if the player has let Caeda die (you monster).
There are a few things every Fire Emblem story contains: war (which brings death), love, and a powerful mcguffin known as the Fire Emblem. Naturally all these elements tend to entangle each other as the story progresses. The war has to do with the Fire Emblem changing hands, and the war tears families and lovers apart. So, could it be that Artemis' Curse extends beyond its original timeline?
Tellius: Fan theory suggests these games may be chronologically first, meaning it's possible they predate the time Artemis laid the curse. However, Lehran's Medallion seems to bring about the death of love throughout its history. FE9-10
Elibe: When Queen Hellene of Bern finally parts with the Fire Emblem, sending Eliwood to the Shrine of Seals for Durandal, Lycia's future is saved. However, the Bernese royal family is doomed to break apart despite the king and queen's agreement to live as a family again. And FE7

Jugdral: Hoo boy. Velthomer drama is at the core of this conflict, and the death of love is all over the place. (Talking about 4 cause I haven't played 5.) FE4 There's practically nothing BUT the death of love in this game. And where's the Fire Emblem?
Magvel: A fairly simple one. Eirika and Ephraim's quest is to reclaim the stones of the Fire Emblem from their various scattered locations. This quest has only one endgame: a fight to the death with their lifelong best friend.
Ylisse: Archanea's direct descendant plays out Artemis' Curse almost as clearly as its ancestor continent did. In Lucina's future, Validar's first attempt to steal the Fire Emblem is successful, and with it the murder of Emmeryn, who exists as a symbol of peace and Jesus-style love. So, perhaps this is a tinfoil hat-type analysis, but it seems to me that what Nyna calls Artemis' Curse sticks to the Fire Emblem far beyond its original timeline. The series is always about war, always about love, and always about the Fire Emblem changing hands, so the cycle is always repeating.
Their emotions become twisted and dark, as the curse amplifies negative feelings and thoughts. The victim is said to be haunted by the presence of the shadow dragon, always feeling its menacing gaze upon them. It is said that the only way to break the curse is to find and slay the shadow dragon itself. However, this is a nearly impossible task, as the dragon is said to be elusive and incredibly powerful. Many brave warriors and sorcerers have tried and failed, succumbing to the dragon's wrath and becoming part of its cursed existence. The hex of the cursed shadow dragon serves as a cautionary tale and a reminder of the dangers of dabbling in dark magic. It is a warning to those who seek power at any cost, as the consequences of invoking such a hex are severe and irreversible.
