The Good Witch of the North: A Study in Secondary Characters in The Wizard of Oz

By admin

The Good Witch of the North is a character in L. Frank Baum's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the popular film adaptation, The Wizard of Oz. She is a powerful and kind-hearted witch who resides in the northern region of Oz. Unlike many of the witches in the land, the Good Witch of the North uses her magic for good and is greatly respected by the residents of Oz. In the story, the Good Witch of the North is the first witch that Dorothy encounters after her house is swept away by a tornado and lands in Munchkinland. She is the one who informs Dorothy that she has inadvertently killed the Wicked Witch of the East by landing on her with her house.

Description

The story of Zambia’s greatest rock band is the story of Zamrock itself.
It’s also a legend that was almost lost in time until only a few years ago. But the most incredible thing about the mighty WITCH and their brilliant garage, blues and psych-rock sound is that the story isn’t over yet.
With Zango, the band’s first new album in nearly forty years — full of international and inter-generational collaborations that chart musical histories from Zambia and beyond — Zamrock lives again.
“Zango means ‘meeting place’” explain the band. “Every village will have this central place, where villagers meet to prepare for work, where youngsters go to learn, where the young ones learn from the elder folks, and where the visitors come and converge. It’s an institution, a place where people are welcomed, and where people come for research. It speaks to our band and its various backgrounds and countries. We are at our own meeting point with our music.”
Limited to 500 copies, the VMP exclusive version of WITCH's Zango is pressed on Zambian Green vinyl at Gotta Groove Records. The 1LP will arrive in a single, direct-to-board, foil-stamped and numbered jacket. It was mastered at World of Paint Studios, Antwerp.

Good witch of the north wizard of oz

She advises Dorothy to follow the Yellow Brick Road and gives her instructions on how to reach the Emerald City, where she hopes to find a way back home to Kansas. While the Good Witch of the North does not accompany Dorothy on her journey, her presence and words of encouragement serve as a constant reminder of the power of good and the importance of kindness and compassion. She helps Dorothy understand the potential within herself and encourages her to believe in her own abilities. Overall, the Good Witch of the North represents the embodiment of goodness and virtue in the Land of Oz. She serves as a beacon of hope and guidance for Dorothy, reminding her that she has the strength to overcome any obstacle she may face. Through her actions and words, the Good Witch beautifully illustrates the importance of using one's powers for good and the transformative power of kindness and love..

Reviews for "The Good Witch of the North: A Reflection of Dorothy's Inner Strength in The Wizard of Oz"

1. John - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the portrayal of the Good Witch of the North in "The Wizard of Oz." In the book, she is described as a kind and wise character, but in the movie, she comes across as nagging and annoying. Her high-pitched voice and constant interference in Dorothy's journey made it hard for me to connect with her character. I was hoping to see a more powerful and influential representation of the Good Witch, but unfortunately, the film fell short in that aspect.
2. Sarah - 1 star - I couldn't stand the Good Witch of the North in "Wizard of Oz." She was such a one-dimensional character with no real depth or development. Her role felt like an afterthought, and her interactions with Dorothy were forced and unconvincing. I expected a magical and enchanting character who would guide Dorothy on her journey, but instead, the Good Witch of the North felt like an unnecessary addition to the story. Overall, I found her presence disappointing and unnecessary.
3. Robert - 2 stars - The Good Witch of the North was probably the weakest character in "The Wizard of Oz." Her appearance and mannerisms were overly exaggerated, and her constant insistence on following the yellow brick road became tiresome. I couldn't help but feel like her character was inserted solely to move the plot along, without any real purpose or meaningful contribution. I wish the filmmakers had given her a more substantial role and better characterization, as she had the potential to be a truly captivating character.
4. Lisa - 2 stars - The Good Witch of the North in "The Wizard of Oz" was by far my least favorite character. Her presence seemed redundant and unnecessary, and her actions often felt contrived. Her interventions in Dorothy's journey were overly convenient and lacked any real depth or meaning. I found myself yearning for a more complex and compelling character to guide Dorothy along her path, but unfortunately, the Good Witch of the North fell short in delivering that. Overall, I was not impressed with her portrayal and felt that the story could have done without her altogether.
