Unveiling the Mysteries: Exploring Augmentations for Genuine Magic Wands

By admin

Genuine Magic Wand Augmentations Magic wands have long been a symbol of power and wonder in the realm of magic. These mystical tools have the ability to channel and amplify magical energy, allowing the user to perform extraordinary feats. However, as with any tool, there are always ways to enhance and augment its capabilities. Genuine magic wand augmentations refer to the various modifications that can be made to a magic wand in order to increase its potency and versatility. One of the most common ways to augment a magic wand is through the addition of enchanted gemstones. These gemstones, when properly attuned to the wand, can enhance its magical properties, allowing the user to cast more powerful spells or access new types of magic.

FILM REVIEW: Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls (2023)

Fledgling occultist Onyx and a group of worshipers attend a once-in-a-lifetime ritual at their idol Bartok the Great's mansion.

In the 80’s and 90’s there was a slew of sketched based movies coming from SNL. Everyone remembers the classics like 'Wayne’s World' and 'The Blues Brothers', but often forget the disasters like 'Coneheads', 'Stuart Saves His Family' and 'It’s Pat'. Coming into the 2000’s, the rise of YouTube meant that we started see regular people present their unique style of comedy to the masses (for better or often worse.) Channels like Fred, The Nostalgia Critic and Ashen’s have all ventured from YouTube to the big screen but have all failed to deliver a product worth watching. Enter Onyx (played by Andrew Bowser), an odd nerdy character that would turn up at public events and get himself interviewed on television. Like many internet characters, Onyx is a very particular sense of humour, often playing on how nerdy he is, how he still lives with his parents and his struggles with people of the other sex. It’s very clear that the character is meant to be autistic, and some people may find that offensive, but Bowser never plays the character with malice thankfully. The film itself was able to be made thanks to a very successful Kickstarter; so clearly there’s an audience for this character, but did writer/director Andrew Bowser, Onyx himself, deliver?

First of all, your enjoyment of this film will really depend on your enjoyment of the character of Onyx. Bowser fully commits to the bit but I can see it being a big turn off to an audience member if you find this guy annoying, because he’s literally in every scene of the 110 minutes of the movie. Thankfully for me, I didn’t mind the Onyx character and actually started to enjoy him by the end. Onyx as a character is like a human version of SpongeBob SquarePants, so if that sounds terrible, I've got some bad news for you.

The rest of the cast are all clearly having a lot of fun here. Rivkah Reyes (my childhood crush from School of Rock, hi Rivkah) is great as Mack, a Hunter S Thompson inspired investigator who come to find the secrets of Bartok the Great. Bartok is played by Jefferey Combs (my adult crush from Re-Animator, hi Jeff) and he absolutely hams it up in the role to great effect. Everybody plays off Onyx well, never making it feel like he’s a character they don’t want to be there. This can often be the downfall of these type of films, when a character being weird brings the film to a screeching halt as the characters around them must stop what they’re doing to react to the weirdness.

The plot itself is pretty basic; Five strangers come to an old mansion owned by Bartok the Great with the promise of a new life. Bartok has his own motives, of course, using the souls of the strangers to gain eternal life. The weirdest thing about the film is if you took out the swearing, it’d be perfect as a gateway horror for young teens. The humour is often very silly and cartoonish, in a good way. The practical effects are fantastic and a major highlight of the film. It's incredible what they’ve been able to achieve with such a small budget. It’s very clear that creator Andrew Bowser is a big fan of 80’s horror, taking influence from films like 'Castle Freak' and 'Fright Night'. I can also feel that Bowser takes influence from Jack Black as a personality and the film often feels like the Tenacious D film ‘Pick of Destiny’.

With a runtime of almost 2 hours, Onyx kind of overstays his welcome. There’s a tight 90-minute movie here with some editing, that I think would have kept me more invested in the ridiculous plot. The pacing of the hour is honestly very quick and snappy, never lingering on any unnecessary scenes. It’s in the second half of the film where things start to drag out as the film just doesn’t know how to wrap up.

Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls

Onyx joins a group of fellow occultists to attend a dark ritual at the mansion of their idol, Bartok. Suspecting Bartok’s nefarious intentions, Onyx is suddenly immersed in a world of monsters, mystery, and mayhem.

You'll either love it or hate it but if comedy horror is your niche, you'll probably love it

There is a specific level of silly and satirical that a good horror comedy has to hit while still maintaining a good enough storyline for there to be stakes and characters fleshed out enough for you to care about them. It can be a difficult tightrope to walk.

This hits that level right on the mark. That being said, it's not for everyone. It's for the kind of audience that quotes viva la dirt league skits. If your friends just look at you funny when you do this and enjoyed the latest disney star wars shows, this movie probably isn't for them.

The only reason that I'm only giving it 9/10 is that I felt that the ending was rushed and seemed fairly anticlimactic compared to the buildup toward it. There isn't anything specific I can put my finger on, but it just had a different feel than the rest of the movie, as if the ending fell victim to a budget or time constraint.

This movie is an excellent addition to its genre and I hope you are in the group of people who enjoy it.

Ive seen Andrew's onyx character before. Searching through youtube I had run across "arbys guy" and found the video mildly amusing. When it comes to comedy, it takes a special kind to get me to laugh. ( not unlike people who claim they don't scare easy from horror movies)

Onyx is very funny and I LOL at many of his lines in this film. The rest of the cast was great and I would like to see where Andrew can take this. The effects were cheesy but worked within the context of the movie. I apologize for the review being all over the place but I recommend this for people who enjoy either Andrew's videos or have an open mind for horror comedy that delivers big on a low budget!

I really liked it!

I had a lot of fun watching this movie. I watch a lot of tv and movies, and this was the most enjoyable and quite funny things that I've seen in quite a long time. I really like Andrew Bowser, but I was a bit concerned that his schtick would grow old in a feature length movie. Boy was I wrong! I could watch a whole series of movies based on this character, as long as the quality of the writing stayed the same. Like the old times movies based on the same characters put in different situations, like Abbott and Costello. Anyway, as I said, I had a lot of fun watching this movie and haven't laughed so hard in quite a while! Thanks Andrew!

Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls (2023)

At a large estate, a group of worshippers attend an ominous ceremony led by a cultist who they’ve watched on television for a long time. Honored to be there, most of the members are happy with the roles they are given. Onyx, on the other hand, isn’t so sure, but his role may be much more than the organizers could have ever expected.

Written and directed by star Andrew Bowser, this is the kind of film that some will adore, and others will be absolutely bored with. The story is written to be extra nerdy and to appeal to a particular crowd, which it most likely will. However, to this reviewer, the film comes off as self-important, a vanity project that lands flat. The story has a lot of aspects that should have been interesting, but not a single one landed and it quickly became a bit of a chore to watch. For those who will be into it, the humor and the nerdy references, the way the film is directed and shot will most likely all land just right. As it is, it’s not something that everyone will love, far from it.

The cast here is mostly ok. They work with the material just fine and all are in the same frame of mind and tone with their work. Of course, the writer-director being the lead, the part that gets the most attention is clearly his. Thankfully, Jeffrey Combs is here, and he is always amazingly good. Combs can take anything and make it so much more than the sum of its parts. His presence here is a saving grace and really entertaining, thank you Mr. Combs. Barbara Crampton also is involved here, and more of her would have been more than welcomed. She’s her usual talented self. The rest of the cast is ok here, some of them definitely better than the others, but given that the film didn’t hit the right notes for this viewer, having some decent performances was something that was beyond needed and that is something to be grateful for.

The film as a whole looks decent with solid cinematography by Dan Adlerstein and special effects that work fairly well, giving the film some good images throughout. The look here helps keep the viewer for who the story doesn’t connect involved with the film. The practical effects do suffer from the lower budget, but there is a charm to them, especially when characters are turned into sort-of zombies who are a mix between old school gross and some oddly adorable design. It’s entertaining and it does give the film some fun bits here and there. The CGI effects are actually not bad, so there is something here as well.

Overall, Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls is one of those frustrating wasted opportunities films where there is something there, there are many things there, but most of them develop in ways that just don’t connect. Thank goodness for the presence of Barbara Crampton and Jeffrey Combs, for fun special effects, and an occasional enjoyable song on the soundtrack. The film is not that great unfortunately and it’s, as mentioned, frustrating and it leads to hoping perhaps this was less of a vanity project and more of something where others had more input to help move the film and direction along into more interesting paths.

This movie was a ton of fun. If you're into 80's horror comedy, this is for you. Like a Willy Wonka for Satanists of sorts. I was wondering how the character of Onyx would translate to long form content like this, but it worked well.

All of the performances were spectacular. Especially from Rivkah Reyes and Olivia Taylor Dudley. Everyone knew what kind of world they were building in this movie and they played the parts wonderfully.

This isn't going to be for everyone. I'm sure some folks will not connect with this style of humor, or the character of Onyx at all. I think the people who do connect will absolutely love it. I'm glad Sundance did online screenings so I could catch this early.

Also, any movie that scores Ralph Ineson's amazing voice is always worth a watch.

Permalink 6 /10 BandSAboutMovies 23 April 2023 Warning: Spoilers

You may have seen Andrew Bowser play Onyx before in viral videos. As Onyx the Fortuitous, he's also been listed as "Weird Satanic Guy" and his distinct speech pattern will definitely stick with you.

Now, Onyx is part of his own film, Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, directed, written and edited by Bowser. Yet Onyx does not live the dream life. He makes burgers for a living at Marty's Meat Hut and gets abused at every turn. He's barely tolerated by his parents (Barbara Crampton is his mom!). Yet he has one thing that he loves. Or a person, really. Bartok the Great (Jeffrey Combs) is an occultist who has created several learn-at-home programs - Letting a Little Devil In - that Onyx has studied in his pursuit of Satanism and now, he has a chance to be the magician's assistant as he raises a demon from Hell. He's one of the many followers lured into this ritual by Bartok's assistant Farrah (Olivia Taylor Dudley, Paranormal Acivity: The Ghost Dimension), along with Bartok's wife in a past life Jesminder (Melanie Chandra), magical scholar Mr. Duke (TC Carson, the voice of Mace Windu and Kratos in God of War), the tough, understanding and non-binary Mack (Rivkah Reyes, who was once Katie in School of Rock) and the prim and proper former church lady Marsha (Donna Pieroni).

However, Bartok has no interest in teaching any of these would-be dark lords. Instead, he is stealing their souls and transforming them into zombies, all to increase his power. However, the Fortuitous One is among them and it just might be Onyx.

Your enjoyment will be determined by how much you like the strange-voiced, virginal cartoon-loving loser at the heart of it. I thought Onyx was relatively funny and I didn't have any issues, but some reviewers seem to in no way be able to get past him. But when a movie has gigantic puppet demons and an entire sequence that's taken from the Meat Loaf video for "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)," I think that feels like people who have no idea how to have fun.

I mean, more movies should have demon puppets in them. That's a sword that I will definitely fall on.

"Onyx The Fortuitous And The Talisman Of Souls"

written & directed by Andrew Bowser starring Andrew Bowser & Jeffrey Combs

Beginning as a series of YouTube comedy shorts, the character of Onyx has developed a unique mythology as well as a devoted fanbase. In order to secure financing for his independent film, writer/director/star Bowser turned to crowdfunding website Kickstarter where he was able to raise $610,467. When compared to big Hollywood blockbusters, that amount is small potatoes, but with that small budget, he was able to create a film that looks and feels like it cost 10× that amount. The makeup, costumes and creature effects are all great. They pale in comparison to their big budget brethren, but this film was designed to look as if it was made in the heyday of 1980s creature films (i.e. "Gremlins" or "Fright Night") and at that they succeeded beautifully.

As of this writing (10/19/2023), the movie has played at many film festivals, including the prestigious SUNDANCE, but for now is playing in theaters one night only as part of a FATHOM EVENTS screening. The audience I saw this with all seemed to enjoy themselves. They laughed at all the right moments and seemed moved by the sadder ones. Overall, I would say it was a success with that crowd. I hope the film finds its audience as it is something I think many people will enjoy.

This was fun! Oddly for what appears to be a lower budget movie the acting is great the story is interesting and the comedy is spot on. If you need obvious comedy this is not your movie. They hide comedy in various ways so the more often you watch it, the more you pick up on. I typically do not enjoy independent films that look like a poor excuse for a college class project. I'd compare it to a dark Napoleon Dynamite. I look forward to additional movies from Onyx but they cannot change anything. Don't use more money, more effects, more costumes. Keep the character the same and this will be a cult classic.

It's a bold move to stake your project around a one-note gimmick character. That note NEEDS to land or the entire thing falls apart.

This one completely falls apart.

Neckbeard mall-ninja cringe comedy is completely doable but too many of Onyx's jokes were long non-sequitur hillbilly tangents that were not funny. I felt like I was anticipating something, anything funny to happen until the movie ended.

Bartok was the only character that achieved some level of actual humor. The other characters were barely even attempting comedy, to give space for the comedy star of Onyx, but since Onyx wasn't funny, it was like nobody was doing anything.

It wasn't offensively bad- but it falls into the two worst possible categories for a comedy. A) Not funny, and B) completely mediocre.

To be honest, I really don't know what to make of this movie. It had a few laughs, lots of chuckles and a few cringes. The story line was actually pretty decent and it made a few flashback connecters so you know why some things happened as they did. Reminded me of a modern day Svenghoolie type of movie they show of Friday nights. The actors were reasonably good, they executed their roles well and there was a good bit of chemistry amongst them but with some more so that others. It sounds like this was just an average movie, and for the most part it was. However, if there was another Onyx the Fortuitous movie, I'd actually go see it. And this is coming from an old guy. Oddly compelling.

Saw this at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival

"Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls" is a story about fledgling occultist Onyx and a group of worshipers attend a once-in-a-lifetime ritual at their idol BARTOK THE GREAT'S mansion. Based on Andrew Bowser's character named "Onyx the Fortuitous", the film is meant to be a throwback of cheesy 80s horror film and fun non-serious halloween film. I haven't seen much of Bowser's work besides his work in "The Mother of Invention" which I thought was pretty good. However, this film was painfully awful and annoying to watch.

It's clear the film is trying to be non-serious but the problem is that the film's humor and writing feels extremely forced as if it was trying too hard to be funny which ultimately ends up being pretty cringy. The story feels like something from Scooby-Doo but instead of being clever, it's filled with unfunny humor, extremely annoying characters and an all over the place scenario.

Most of the humor feels like humor you will find in terrible modern comedies about toilet humor that is annoying. None of the performances were good and were all pretty bad. I can not stand the character of Onyx the Fortuitous and every other character feels like flat out rejects from a terrible Nickelodeon show. It almost feels like I am watching something from terrible YouTuber films like "Space Cop, Smosh: The Movie, Airplane Mode, and Not Cool". The production designs feel cheap, the dialogue is purely awful, and it never was boring but I felt more annoyed rather than bored.

The only good aspect about this film were the special effects especially the uses of puppets and costumes were good. Overall, it was painful and highly unfunny. But better than most Youtuber films I guess.

This flick stars a unicorn of a character. Onyx is maybe a bit of an acquired taste, but I love him! More Onyx movies please!

Instantly you're invited into this special world that the title character inhabits, and I just love how it feels absurd and grounded and timeless all at the same time. The casting was great. But I honestly had a little trouble connecting with Mack in the first half - I was won over and moved to tears by them later on though!

Olivia Taylor Dudley slays! Mr. Combs. OMG. Bartok is now one of my favorite villains in a comedy. Keepin it beefy!

The creatures and make up effects were lovely. The story was fun and it felt surprisingly grand for being set largely at one location. The visual effects were a distraction at times but mostly did the job. What a warm blanket the cinematography was, pleasingly soft and evocative! A great vibe to making it feel like a bit of an 80s/90s cult film.

The music was oh so good! The heck my guy!? That's a million dollar score right there. How did you get that?? And the handful of homages to the works of Huey Lewis, Trevor Jones, Brad Fiedel, etc. Chef's kiss!

Sound design was rich and colorful. I loved the sequence involving the sharing of dreams and I almost choked on a few sound gags like the book making that pathetic noise for the virgin bit. Hah!

This was a naughty good time too. Curses and curse words abound! And the dream sequence of my dreams! Oh boy!

The next one better have more practical creatures, more naughty behavior, and the same wonderfully endearing Onyx the Fortuitous!!

I only discovered Andrew's work a few years ago, but always enjoyed not only Onyx but his short films like "Little Willy". This film was funnier and more charming than I hoped it could be. I truly hope this is a first of at least a trilogy (I'm an 80's kid, Trilogy's are a must, lol) The entire cast is great, the practical effects are awesome and the soundtrack is wonderful. As an artist starting to see a project begin that has been in the planning stages for years, this was very inspiring to watch as well. Definitely watch this on Sundance this week! If not, check it out when it comes out eventually-someone better pick this film up, it's gonna have a great following and get great reviews. idunno.

People giving low ratings have no appreciation for movies writhe with cheesy innuendo and dry comedy. This is a instant cult classic. If, for no other reason people watch this movie it should be for the fight scene between Onyx and his step father "Todd". I hope there will be more to come from Bowser. This film is ridiculously entertaining and fun for the whole family. This quirky indie film that defies easy categorization. It's part comedic romp, part occult adventure, and throws in a dash of coming-of-age for good measure. The result is a surprisingly delightful concoction that's sure to tickle your funny bone and send shivers down your spine in equal measure.

It was great to see a movie in which the same person played the lead, directed, and wrote the screenplay. After watching what I did in "Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls" I can confidently say that Andrew Bowser is a name to keep an eye on.

An admirably hilarious, and surprisingly relatable, story panned out as the titular Onyx (real name, Marcus, but he hates being called that) indulged his love for all things occult and nerdy a little too deeply. A super-rare ritual soon resulted in a super-rare fiasco of comedic proportions.

The dastardly Bartok the Great (played by Jeffrey Combs) gave Onyx (and some others) a run for his money. Despite being a huge fan of Bartok, Onyx won a contest that soon exposed a sinister - more than he's usually used to - world filled with demons and darkness.

He was off to Bartok's mansion (Briardale Manor) as one among a handful of people 'privileged' enough to partake in an abysmal ritual to harness the power of Abaddon, an "angel of the bottomless pit" (biblical reference).

Said people included Jesminder (the Queen, played by Melanie Chandra), Mr. Duke (the Lycan, played by Terrence "TC" Carson), Shelley (the Viking, played by Arden Myrin), and Mack (the Witch, played by Rivkah Reyes). And our dear old Onyx was the Virgin. Farrah (played by Olivia Taylor Dudley) was already at the manse and fulfilled the role of Bartok's delegate and aide.

When the gang arrived, Onyx and the others discovered Bartok was dead, for a while anyway. The buck didn't stop there, of course. Bartok and Farrah were playing a deceptive game using the others to claim the powerful talisman of souls, which could imbue them with everlasting life.

As for the talisman itself, I recall seeing Viking jewellery (with Fenrir embellishments) online similar to it. This and all the other props were genuinely alluring.

Metaphysical tropes and over-the-top occultism came to the fore, along with some D&D vibes and corny-but-cool college humour, all of which lent this production the outrageous appeal and meme-worthy content needed to make it a hit among fans of both horror and comedy genres.

In "Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls", there was a simple yet elegant level of supernatural storytelling that did justice to the characters and the comedy.

Every performance was on point and the dialogues, though silly, were carefully crafted in alignment with the movie's theme. The more I saw "Onyx the Fortuitous" from the perspective of a writer (which I am), it was curiously fluff-free and delivered only the message it needed to in any given scene or sequence.

The plot also dealt with serious issues through a comedic lens. Anxiety, bullying, depression, mediocrity, family misunderstanding, childhood trauma, and more were duly showcased.

This project represents additional proof that indie movies work. They bring a fresh flavour of fun and originality to an otherwise cookie-cutter industry where the same tropes are often recycled (and badly) into unnecessarily 'woke' stories. "Onyx" changed that a little bit.

I'll more than welcome the news of a sequel to this beautifully crafted production which, in my opinion, is one of the genuinely funniest movies I've seen this year.

Lastly, I don't think I will ever un-hear that ridiculously amazing accent Andrew Bowser created for Onyx.

These gemstones, when properly attuned to the wand, can enhance its magical properties, allowing the user to cast more powerful spells or access new types of magic. For example, a wand fitted with a fiery ruby may grant the user the ability to cast fire spells with greater intensity, while a wand adorned with a sparkling sapphire may unlock the power of water magic. Another popular augmentation technique is the addition of magical cores.

Genuine magic wand augmentations

A wand's core is typically made from a naturally occurring magical substance, such as a basilisk fang or a phoenix feather, but by replacing or adding to the existing core, the wand's powers can be greatly enhanced. For instance, a wand infused with dragon heartstring may become more attuned to the element of fire, granting the user greater control over flames and heat. In addition to gemstones and cores, there are other augmentations that can be made to a magic wand. Some wands can be enchanted with runes or sigils, which imbue the wand with specific magical abilities or attributes. For example, a wand engraved with a protection rune may offer enhanced defense against dark magic, while a wand inscribed with a speed sigil may allow the user to cast spells more quickly. It is important to note that genuine magic wand augmentations should always be performed by skilled enchanters or wizards with extensive knowledge of wandlore. Improper modifications can lead to unpredictable and potentially dangerous results. Furthermore, the compatibility between the wand and its augmentation is crucial for achieving optimal results. A wand and its augmentations must be in harmony in order to unleash their true potential. In conclusion, genuine magic wand augmentations offer a way for wizards and enchanters to enhance the power and versatility of these mystical tools. From enchanted gemstones to magical cores and runes, there are a variety of modifications that can be made to a wand to unlock its full capabilities. However, it is important to approach these augmentations with caution and seek the guidance of experienced practitioners. When done correctly, genuine magic wand augmentations can take magic to new heights and allow users to perform truly extraordinary feats..

- Sarah - 2 out of 5 stars - I was really excited to try out the Genuine magic wand augmentations, but I was extremely disappointed with the results. The wand did not live up to its claims of enhancing magical abilities. I tried it on several different spells and rituals, but there was no noticeable difference in their effectiveness. Additionally, the quality of the product was also lacking. The wand felt flimsy and cheap, and I was worried it would break with regular use. Overall, I would not recommend this product for anyone looking to enhance their magical abilities.
