From Prosperity to Misfortune: The Ford Family Curse

By admin

The Ford family curse is a topic that has gained significant attention and interest over the years. It revolves around the belief that the Ford family, particularly the descendants of Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company, have been plagued by misfortune and tragedy. While some may dismiss it as mere coincidence, others firmly believe that there is indeed a curse that follows the family. **The curse is said to have begun with Edsel Ford, Henry Ford's son, who died at the young age of 49, leaving a void in the family both personally and professionally. This was followed by the tragic death of Edsel's son, Henry Ford II, who passed away due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 70.** Throughout the family's history, there have been several other instances that seem to provide credence to the curse.

Column: Detroit Lions fans can relax now that they know the curse is over

Relax Lions fans, I am here to assuage your fears, calm your souls, temper your anger.

I realize you are but helpless pawns of a franchise that seems to have wasted another opportunity at redemption with a particularly puzzling draft over the weekend.

A quarterback and tight end in the first round? No middle linebacker? Who is going to block for the QB? The list goes on.

I cannot explain it. I won't try.

I cannot promise you that what I have to say is convincing, or even logical. Yet, I'm going to try to explain how this weekend's draft not only is going to be successful in the long run but might even turn this franchise around.Bear with me on this.

The last time Detroit won an NFL championship was in 1957. People act like football wasn't invented before 1967, the year of the first Super Bowl, but it was. And Detroit was pretty good at it.

Quarterback Bobby Layne led the Lions to the championship, with Tobin Rote filling in during the title game due to a Layne injury, and because they're the Lions, they traded him in 1958 to Pittsburgh. According to legend, Layne cursed the team on his way out of town, saying the Lions "would not win for 50 years."

If championships are the measure, he was right.

Not only that, but the 50th year of the curse, the last one, was last season, and you know what happened then -- 0-16! And you doubted the curse.

Follow me here for one more minute. The Lions hit rock bottom -- failed picks, lost playoff games, a Hall of Fame running back who retires early, paralyzed star players, a death on the field, etc. -- and the curse has expired.

The team hires a black general manager the same year a black president is inaugurated, and the first pick in the draft, the No. 1 overall selection, is quarterback Matt Stafford, who graduated from Highland Park High School near Dallas, Texas -- THE SAME HIGH SCHOOL THAT BOBBY LAYNE (and Doak Walker, another Lions great) ATTENDED.

(Not only that, but Stafford played high-school baseball with Clayton Kershaw, the first star player for the Great Lakes Loons in Midland who now pitches for the L.A. Dodgers.)

I think we've come full circle, don't you?

This is the sign I've been looking for all along. Some type of symbol, or karma, or something, that will not only end the curse but bestow some kind of good fortune on the Detroit Lions.

I know it doesn't make any sense, but what about this franchise does? It's not much, but I'm going with it. Besides, that's all I've got .

. oh, and the fact that the Ford family got possession of the Lions on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and that Stafford's high school, Highland Park, also had as a student John Hinckley Jr., the man who shot and tried to kill former President Ronald Reagan.

Hinckley failed. Let's hope Stafford doesn't.

Ford family curse

Additionally, his son, William Clay Ford Jr., the former chairman and CEO of Ford Motor Company, faced his own share of challenges, including the company's financial struggles and a decline in market share.** These tragic events and setbacks have led to speculation and theories surrounding the Ford family curse. Some believe that it is a result of their immense wealth and success, as curses are often associated with those who have achieved great power and fortune. Others attribute it to the intense pressure and expectations placed upon members of the family to continue the legacy of Henry Ford. Despite the numerous tragedies and setbacks that have befallen the family, **it is important to note that the Ford family has also experienced moments of success and accomplishments.** The Ford Motor Company remains a prominent and successful automotive manufacturer, and several members of the family have made significant contributions to the business and philanthropic endeavors. While the Ford family curse may continue to be a topic of speculation and intrigue, **it is ultimately up to each individual to decide whether they believe in its existence or dismiss it as mere coincidence.** The concept of curses and the supernatural has long fascinated human beings throughout history, and it is likely that the Ford family curse will continue to captivate the public's imagination for years to come..
