Illusion And Intrigue

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS — A husband and wife magic will take a look back in time next week at the Eureka Springs City Auditorium.

Intrigue Theater is a show starring an illusionist and a medium but featuring special guests from the other side, illusionist Sean-Paul says.

He notes the show is like traveling back in time to an age of intrigue and seeing a theater show in the early 1900s.

The show was created last year, and he says the acts in the show are from or inspired by the Victorian era.

“We have many magicians come to our show that are fooled,” he says.

While on stage, Sean-Paul says he channels the character of Howard Thurston, who was a famous magician who performed at the same time as Harry Houdini. In the first half of the show, he performs multiple demonstrations.

One involves hypnotizing an audience member to help her regress back to a previous lifetime, and she comes back with physical proof she was there, he says.

“It’s something that usually sends a chill down people’s spines when they watch that,” he says.

In another demonstration, a voodoo doll will be shown and an audience member who claims he does not believe in voodoo will be recruited.

The participant will be blindfolded and then the illusionist will tap different parts of his body with a stick and ask him to point to each place he feels a tap, he says. While the person is blindfolded, the illusionist takes a lock of his hair and wraps it around the voodoo doll. He steps back from theparticipant and starts putting pins in the voodoo doll, and he points to the parts of his body Sean-Paul has poked on the doll, he says.

The illusionist says when he looks out at the audience during this act, “everybody is leaning forward on the edge of their seats.”

The second half of the show features his wife Juliane, a medium who talks with spirits in the room. On stage he calls her Juliana Fay, referencing a popular vaudeville psychic entertainer named Anna Fay. For one part of the performance, she is blindfolded as he walks her through the audience.

She claims the spirits will talk to her, and he asks audience members to hand him a personal belonging, such as a driver’s license, he says. She claims the spirits tell her what the item is, and she will be able to tell Sean-Paul where the person is from and what his birth date is, he says.

“They’re able to answer questions that people have with amazing accuracy,” Sean-Paul says of the spirits.

Another segment features artifacts from the Salem witch trials, and he says a spirit from that era will make its presence known.

By the end of the show, Sean-Paul says furniture is moving and floating, and Juliane floats up in the air as well.

He says so much of what they do in the show is historically accurate and relevant. It brings up a lot ofpieces of history people may or may not know, he adds.

“People may feel like they’re learning things in a very subtle, entertaining way,” Sean-Paul concludes.

Reviews for "An Enthralling Journey: Eureka Springs Magic Show Unveils Astonishing Feats"

1. Susan - 2 stars - I had high hopes for the Eureka Springs Magic Show, but I left feeling disappointed. The tricks were mundane and lacked any true element of surprise or awe. The magician seemed to be going through the motions without any real passion or skill. The show also felt disorganized, with long pauses between tricks and awkward audience participation. Overall, it was a forgettable experience that I wouldn't recommend to others seeking a magical night out.
2. John - 1 star - I regretted attending the Eureka Springs Magic Show. It was a complete waste of my time and money. The illusions were poorly executed, and it was evident that the magician was relying on outdated tricks that I had seen many times before. The jokes and banter fell flat, with the magician's attempt at humor coming across as forced and unoriginal. If you're looking for a captivating and mind-blowing magic show, this is definitely not the one. Stay away and save yourself the disappointment.
3. Emily - 2 stars - The Eureka Springs Magic Show left me unimpressed. The tricks performed were basic and lacked any real complexity. It felt like watching a beginner's magic tutorial rather than an entertaining and mind-bending performance. The overall production value was lackluster, with a cheap-looking set and outdated props. I expected to be captivated and amazed, but instead, I found myself looking at my watch, waiting for it to be over. Don't waste your time or money on this underwhelming magic show.
