The Return of Edward Hansel and Gretel: Exploring the Latest Installment in the Epic Franchise

By admin

Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters was a 2013 dark fantasy action horror film directed by Tommy Wirkola. The movie reimagined the classic fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel as adults who become skilled witch hunters. The film received mixed reviews from critics but managed to gross over $225 million worldwide, which led to talks of a potential sequel. The main idea is that Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters might have a sequel..

If you (like me) missed a few of the fairy tale related things about this film along the way, here are a few things you may not know:

It was announced that Bruno Aveillan would be making his feature film debut with the sequel, since Wirkola stepped down to focus on some other of his indie projects. This is a dark, dark fairy tale - even a very sanitized version like the Disney one in which it s clear the witch is pushed into a COLD over and is taken out and sent to jail later - ugh.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 Release is 2016; Sequel To Go Further Than Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters Original Says Producer; Everyone In First Film Will Come Back

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 release is sometime in 2016 according to a JoBlo report. Paramount Pictures International SVP Edward Ryan reportedly confirmed at CineEurope in Spain that a sequel to the surprise 2013 box office hit and cult favorite 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' original is in the works.

Although generally panned by critics, and despite its modest $60-80 million budget, the R-rated first Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters film has already earned Paramount $226 million in worldwide total box office haul to date, not including proceeds from Blue Ray/DVD sales.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 will continue to be handled by Will Ferrel and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions. While not actually revealing what the plot will be for the sequel, McKay, in a talk with Cinema Blend, said, "Well, I'm not going to tell you specifically. I know what the storyline is but I will say-I'll give one hint. Think of different kinds of witchcraft."

Tommy Wirkola, writer and director for the original Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters movie, will also be back for the sequel. Of what to expect from Wirkola, McKay told Movie Web, "It's this deranged Norwegian geek, and he has been given the wheel to this giant corporate money-making behemoth. this kid was given this wheel. I'm really excited about the second one. Because he didn't steer the behemoth off the road on the first one. You are going to get to see even more slack on his leash with the second one. He is really going to get to roam free on this. I've already started to hear some of the ideas he is working on, and its pretty insane. This could be one of those instances where the sequel does go further than the first one."

But what about the stars Jeremy Renner who plays Hansel and Gemma Arterton who plays Gretel, will they be returning for the sequel? McKay told Cinema Blend ". that there have been early discussions, and both of them loved working with Tommy. So, you know, Jeremy and Gemma are both very busy actors and we're just starting on the script right now. But I know they had the best time doing the movie and really loved the way it played worldwide. Everyone feels like as good as the first one is, we can really jack it up a level with the second one. So, fingers crossed, everyone will come back."

Reviews for "An Intimate Exploration of Characters: How the Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters Sequel Takes a Deeper Dive"

1. John - 2 stars
I was really disappointed with the "Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" sequel. It felt like a complete waste of time and money. The plot was confusing and poorly developed, and the action sequences were over-the-top and lacked any real substance. The characters were one-dimensional and uninteresting, making it difficult to care about their fates. Overall, I found the film to be a mindless and forgettable experience.
2. Sarah - 1 star
I cannot believe I wasted my time watching the "Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" sequel. The original movie was already lacking, but this sequel managed to be even worse. The story was laughable and the dialogue was cringe-worthy. The attempts at humor were forced and fell flat. I found myself counting down the minutes until the movie was over. Save yourself the trouble and skip this sequel.
3. Robert - 2 stars
I was a fan of the first "Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters," but the sequel was a major letdown. The film tried too hard to be edgy and cool, resulting in a messy and incoherent storyline. The action scenes were over-the-top and lacked any real excitement. The characters felt like caricatures, and their motivations were unclear. Overall, it felt like the filmmakers were just cashing in on the success of the first film without putting in any real effort.
4. Emily - 2 stars
As a fan of the original movie, I was disappointed by the "Edward Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" sequel. The plot felt like a recycled version of the first film, with no new ideas or surprises. The new characters introduced were forgettable and added nothing to the story. The special effects were decent, but they couldn't make up for the lackluster story and uninspired action sequences. Overall, it was a forgettable and unnecessary sequel.
