THE CARL GOODSON HONORS PROGRAM
The Carl Goodson Honors Program seeks to further academic excellence and inspire intellectual curiosity among the university’s high academic achievers. Scholars eligible to participate in the honors program have the opportunity to enroll in honors section of CORE classes as well as special honor seminars on interdisciplinary subjects outside the traditional catalog (recent seminars include “African Fictions” and “Chemistry & Cooking”). Unique research, social and travel opportunities also are available to students admitted to the program. Ouachita's Elrod Center hosts 53rd Tiger Serve Day
Ouachita Baptist University’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family & Community held its 53rd Tiger Serve Day on Saturday, Sept. 23. More than 800 Ouachita students, faculty and staff completed 83 projects at area homes, non-profits, churches and designated trash pickup sites across Arkadelphia and DeGray Lake.

Ouachita Baptist University has reported its highest enrollment in 57 years, with a Fall 2023 headcount of 1,815.
"Stepping Up" luncheon to honor Huckabee women in November
Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Development has announced its annual Stepping Up for Ouachita luncheon, presented by Simmons Bank, will be held Friday, Nov. 17, at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark. The event will recognize its first mother-and-daughter honorees, former Arkansas First Lady Janet Huckabee and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. 1. Mary Johnson - 1 star - I was really disappointed with the Dallas Baptist mascot. It looked like someone had thrown together a random assortment of different animals and called it a mascot. It was confusing and didn't make any sense. I couldn't even tell what it was supposed to represent. Overall, a very underwhelming mascot.
2. Jake Thompson - 2 stars - The Dallas Baptist mascot was just plain ugly. It was a strange combination of different animals, and none of them looked good. The design was poorly executed and it just looked awkward. It didn't inspire any team spirit or excitement. Definitely not a fan of this mascot.
3. Sarah Davis - 1 star - I have no idea what Dallas Baptist was thinking when they designed this mascot. It was bizarre and didn't seem to have any connection to the school or its values. The colors were also completely off and clashed with the school's branding. It just didn't work on any level. I hope they reconsider and come up with something better in the future.
4. Michael Brown - 2 stars - The Dallas Baptist mascot was confusing and lacked any real personality. It seemed like they were trying too hard to be unique and ended up with something that was just plain weird. It didn't have the charm or appeal of other mascots I've seen. I was quite disappointed with this choice.
5. Emily Wilson - 1 star - The Dallas Baptist mascot was a total letdown. It felt like they didn't put much effort into the design or the concept. It was forgettable and didn't make any impact. I think they could have done much better, especially considering the importance of a mascot in representing the spirit of a school. Overall, a big miss.
