The strengths and weaknesses of the Witch class in Dragon Quest 8

By admin

Dragon Quest 8 is a popular role-playing video game developed by Level-5. One of the main characters in the game is Jessica Albert, who is often referred to as the "Witch". Jessica is a talented magician who specializes in offensive spells and can summon powerful demons to aid her in battle. As a witch, Jessica wields a staff and has access to a wide range of spells, including fire, ice, and lightning magic. She can also cast supportive spells to heal her allies or enhance their abilities. Jessica's high MP (magic points) allows her to cast spells frequently, making her a valuable asset in battles against tough enemies.

A totally revamped graphical user interface makes the classic Dragon Quest gameplay even more accessible- another feature exclusive to the North American version. I was expecting something more out of DQXI given the scores the game received, excitement to finally play one of these after getting into JRPGs, loving DQ Builders aka being one of the cultivated people SE tried to build up with Builders Heroes , and just knowing how big the series was in the genre Japan.

Jessica's high MP (magic points) allows her to cast spells frequently, making her a valuable asset in battles against tough enemies. In addition to her magical abilities, Jessica is also skilled in using whips as weapons. This gives her a unique advantage on the battlefield, as she can attack enemies from a distance without putting herself in harm's way.

9 & 1/2 hours into the game and I'm loving it thus far. The cast of characters is so much more entertaining and actually charismatic unlike my time with XI. Yangus is a bandit with a heart of gold, Jessica is a fiesty magician, and the titular cursed King is a funnily written character who's struggling to get used to his new form. After all I was just in a bar room brawl that had me chuckling at how each of my party members handled the situation.

I see why the instant Alchemy Pot would be nice but with PCSX's 2x speed for overworld AND combat in a game that's already grindy, it's fine. Plus this game looks gorgeous still and why I don't want to scrap my progress to switch to a version that's 240p.

As I said in another threadmark combat is good not just because of 2x speed but because I feel like the abilities gained from skill point allocation and the tension system are great even if not all that deep. Though I gotta give the game the side-eye for Jessica's character specific skill point being sex appeal. Mechanically it's nice being able to "stun" enemies by making them fall in love with her but holy shit that made the game seem straight outta the 40s or something.

And while Dhoulmagus has still yet to really establish himself as our villain, the moment to moment story of just following his trail of destruction is at least serviceable. I had similar complaints with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition where the overall story was lacking though I was enjoying the characters and their recruitment by helping them out of their jams as we traveled the world.

Finally, I think expectations are the biggest reason why I'm enjoying myself. I was expecting something more out of DQXI given the scores the game received, excitement to finally play one of these after getting into JRPGs, loving DQ Builders (aka being one of the cultivated people SE tried to build up with Builders & Heroes), and just knowing how big the series was in the genre/Japan.

But now that I know what the games are, very safe and conservative JRPGs, my expectations are properly set.

Throughout the game, players can experience Jessica's growth and development as a character. She starts off as a headstrong, independent young woman seeking revenge for the destruction of her hometown. However, as the story progresses, Jessica learns to rely on her friends and becomes a more compassionate and understanding person. The "Witch" class in Dragon Quest 8 can be seen as a representation of the duality of magic. While it is a powerful force that can cause destruction, it can also be harnessed for good. Jessica's character arc explores this concept, emphasizing the importance of using power responsibly and for the greater good. Overall, Jessica Albert's role as a witch in Dragon Quest 8 adds depth and complexity to the game. Her magical abilities, combined with her unique character development, make her a memorable and significant part of the game's narrative..

I found "Dragon Quest 8 Witch" to be quite disappointing. The graphics were outdated and the gameplay felt repetitive. The story was also lacking depth and failed to engage me. I was looking forward to playing this game, but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations.

While "Dragon Quest 8 Witch" had a decent storyline, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by the overall execution. The character development was weak, and the dialogue felt forced and lacked emotion. The combat system was also quite simplistic, making battles feel repetitive and lacking strategy. Additionally, the game's performance suffered from frequent frame rate drops, which further detracted from the gameplay experience. Overall, I was left feeling unsatisfied with this installment of the Dragon Quest series.
3. Emily - 2/5
I was quite disappointed with "Dragon Quest 8 Witch" as it felt like a step backward from previous games in the series. The world felt empty and lacked detail, and the exploration aspect was tedious. The voice acting was also subpar and felt forced, taking away from the immersion. The side quests were uninteresting and failed to add depth to the overall experience. In my opinion, this game failed to deliver on the strong foundation set by its predecessors, making it a forgettable entry in the Dragon Quest franchise.

"Dragon Quest 8 Witch" was a huge letdown for me. The graphics were outdated, and the character models looked strangely disproportionate. The controls were clunky and unresponsive, making it frustrating to navigate through the game. The combat system was also dull, lacking any real strategy or excitement. Moreover, the sound design was disappointing, with repetitive and unimpressive music that failed to set the desired mood. Overall, I regretted spending my time on this game and would not recommend it to others.
