From building a bridge to cross a treacherous river to taming a fire-breathing dragon, Dash's magical gift proves to be a valuable asset in his quest. As the narrative unfolds, Dash learns about the responsibilities that come with his gift.

Dasher’s Magical Gift,” CNY Arts’ original holiday show presents its sixth annual production on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m., at the OnCenter Crouse Hinds Theater in Syracuse. The show was created for CNY Arts by nationally recognized theater and dance professionals who live and work in central New York. Dasher’s Magical Gift is an affordable and family-friendly holiday show.

Show tickets range in price from $10 to $19 and can be purchased by phone at (315) 299-5598, or in person at the Symphoria Box Office, 234 Harrison Street, Syracuse. The Box Office is open Friday 9:30 a.m. and also the morning of Saturday’s performance. Tickets can also be purchased online at CNYArts.org. Discounts of $1 per ticket are available with the purchase of four or more tickets using the code DASH19.

“Programming such as “Dasher’s Magical Gift” is a wonderful way to introduce the arts to young children and hopefully this inspires them through this live performance to be future artists or experienced audience members,” says CNY Arts Executive Director Stephen Butler. “This family affordable holiday performances encourage families to get out and enjoy a day in downtown Syracuse and make it part of their own annual holiday traditions.”

Dasher’s Magical Gift is an hour-long, narrated ballet. It features a lively cast of characters including Dasher, and a new reindeer called Peppermint, Sir Ralph Elf, and two slightly confused penguins. The costumes and sets are designed to be upbeat and magical, and there are several surprises especially for the children.

Dance Centre North’s middle and high school-age dancers are continuing their tradition of performing CNY Arts’ holiday production. Director Cathy Napolitano Mucci’s Syracuse area dance school has been teaching classical ballet as well as other dance traditions for 30 years.

Dasher’s Magical Gift was written for CNY Arts by Matt Chiorini, Chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Le Moyne College and a published playwright. The show is directed and choreographed by Larry Crabtree, Adjunct Dance Instructor at Le Moyne College and Syracuse University, and faculty member at Dance Centre North. Costumes were designed by Lindsey Quay Sikes, Professor of Practice Costume at Le Moyne College. The Spirit of Christmas scene was created by Catherine Kingsley, whose designs have appeared in many American and European productions. Lighting design is by John Czajkowski. He is a Technical Director at Le Moyne College.
