Yes, first, set up universal control using the port you connected your Apple TV to. I used an lg DVD player, remote type 9. Then go to your Apple TV and select add a remote. To teach the remote buttons, you just have to keep clicking the button over and over and eventually the remote will learn it. It may seem like it is not working at first, but keep clicking it, eventually, the remote will learn!

Thanks for the tip. I am still strugling though, when I chose the game console it is not even taking me to the rest of the universal remote set up section. Could you tell me how you completed the set up?

OK. My TV is an OLED65C7T first off. What I went to is Device Connector on the TV and selected Game Console. I've tried selecting blu-ray/DVD and trying to teach the remote as outlined above in other posts but it just hasn't worked. I'm using HDMI 1 for my Apple TV and it connects automatically via the TV when using the Game Console method. selection (no option to teach the remote). So then I selected Done. After that I go back to the Apple TV remote. In the ATV remotes and devices menu I make sure Home Theatre control TVs and receivers is on and volume control is on auto (via IR TV). Then your magic remote should work. It is temperamental though I'm finding. When you go back to Live TV and then flick back to your Apple TV input - wait until on screen menus have disappeared before using the magic remote - otherwise it gets confused I think. I think it might only work when you wake the Apple TV up using the Apple Remote, but haven't played with it enough yet. Good luck!

Reviews for "How to Program Your Certified LG Magic Remote to Control External Devices"

1. John - 1 star - The Certified LG Magic Remote was a complete disappointment. The setup process was a hassle, and even after following all the instructions, it refused to connect to my TV properly. The responsiveness of the remote was also an issue, as it would often lag or not register my commands at all. I ended up returning it and getting a different remote that worked much better. Save yourself the headache and avoid this remote.
2. Sarah - 2 stars - I had high hopes for the Certified LG Magic Remote, but it fell short of my expectations. The touchpad feature was frustrating to use, as it was sensitive to the slightest touch and would often scroll too fast or jump around unexpectedly. The voice control option also didn't work well, as it frequently misunderstood my commands or failed to recognize them at all. Overall, I found the remote to be more of a hassle than a convenience, and I wouldn't recommend it to others.
3. David - 2 stars - The Certified LG Magic Remote was a letdown for me. The design seemed sleek and modern, but the functionality didn't match up. The buttons were too small and closely packed together, making it difficult to navigate and press the right controls. Additionally, the remote often required multiple attempts for it to register my inputs, which became frustrating after a while. I'm disappointed in this remote and would suggest looking for alternatives that offer better usability.
