Conquer Any Condition with the Versatile Carlisle Magic Plus Kayak Paddle

By admin

The Carlisle Magic Plus kayak paddle is a popular choice among kayakers for its durability and performance. It is designed to provide smooth and efficient paddling strokes, making it ideal for both recreational and adventurous paddling activities. One of the standout features of the Carlisle Magic Plus paddle is its fiberglass reinforced polypropylene blades. These blades are lightweight yet extremely strong, allowing for easy maneuverability on the water. The fiberglass reinforcement adds durability, ensuring that the paddle can withstand the rigors of regular use. The paddle boasts a versatile design, with a slightly asymmetrical blade shape.

We think the Carlisle Magic Plus is a great place to start, but if you need to spend even less, the Bending Branches Whisper is a great paddle that weighs less and has a slightly better locking mechanism. If you can spend a bit more, the Werner Skagit FG is still quite affordable, with even better performance and lighter weight. For those that want the best of the best, the Aqua Bound Sting Ray Carbon and Werner Kalliste are our favorites, though they don't come cheap.

Their nylon blades are much more durable for fishing. If you tend to use your paddle to push off of trees/rocks/docks, nylon will last much longer. That's not a big blade. It's smaller than the typical BB blades. If you have a big, heavy kayak, you may rethink the size of the blades.

I started out with one and it wasn't bad. You might look at the Bending Branches Sunrise. It's in the same price range and is about 5 oz less in weight.

I have used them for a few years now and just recently bought two more on sale a few months ago. For the yakking I do, they work great. I do use more caution when pushing off of things tho. I snapped one a while back. While fishing in strong wind, my line got caught up in a tree. again. A good spinner I was determined to keep. The wind was not making it easy to retrieve and kept pushing me into brush and the bank. I got mad and pushed out hard for the hundredth time. *Snap*. #%@*!. I don't always have the best logic. $5 lure. $130 paddle.

And because i'm a "glass is half full" kind of guy, I did get the lure back.

The Aqua Bound Manta Ray Fiberglass or Bending Branches Slice Glass are in the same price range, but are much lighter than the Carlisle.

It's important to buy the lightest paddle with the stiffest blades your budget will allow, because those paddles will be more efficient at transferring your paddling power to forward motion.

I thought maybe it was just a defect with that particular paddle, so I exchanged it for a new one. But the same thing happened again after just a few uses. The quality of the construction is just not up to par and I would not recommend this paddle.
