Black people have been reacting to mainstream fiction in various ways. Representation in fiction has often been lacking for people of color, and this is especially true for Black individuals. For many years, Black characters were often depicted in stereotypical and one-dimensional ways, perpetuating harmful tropes. This lack of accurate representation can be disheartening and frustrating for Black readers and viewers. When Black people encounter misrepresentation or lack of representation in mainstream fiction, their reactions can be mixed. Some may feel excluded and marginalized, especially when they do not see themselves reflected in stories.
“This world is often hostile to Black women being our full selves and stepping into our power. There’s so much pressure in this world for Black women to shrink themselves. ‘You’re too loud. She’s the queen. Her legacy is also rooted in the legacies of other Black women who’ve come before her. There are so many Black women who we stand upon the shoulders of, and we want to honor them.”
The so-called retheming of Splash Mountain is an effort on Disney s part to make its attractions more inclusive which is a very fancy way of saying Disney is removing the ride because it s based on a notoriously racist movie. Black women show up, time and time again, to do the hard work of speaking out against racism, oppression, gender and sexual violence, and all of the ways our systems perpetuate harm against us, said City Council President Andrea Jenkins.
Some may feel excluded and marginalized, especially when they do not see themselves reflected in stories. This can further perpetuate a sense of otherness and reinforce the idea that their experiences and perspectives are not valued or considered important. Others may feel a sense of disappointment or frustration when Black characters are portrayed through stereotypes.
City Council approves resolution celebrating Black Girl Magic and Beyoncé
The City Council approved a resolution today honoring Black Girl Magic and welcoming pop superstar Beyoncé to Minneapolis. She is performing tonight at Huntington Bank Stadium.
In 2013, Cashawn Thompson created the hashtag #BlackGirlsAreMagic to elevate and honor the voices of Black women. “Black Girl Magic represents the celebration of uniqueness, authenticity, and self-love,” the resolution notes. “It reminds us that every Black woman and girl possesses a special magic within them, deserving of admiration, respect and support.”

No, hundreds of Disney enthusiasts flocked to the Florida theme park to say goodbye to the controversial but dearly beloved ride Splash Mountain.

Furthermore, Black creatives have been pushing boundaries and creating their own stories that center Black characters and narratives. This includes the emergence of Afrofuturism, a genre that imagines alternative futures and realities that center on Black culture and experiences. Through their creations, Black writers, filmmakers, and artists are challenging the status quo and offering new perspectives that resonate with many Black audiences. In recent years, there have been some positive shifts in mainstream fiction, with an increased focus on diversity and inclusion. This includes a rise in Black-led films and television shows that showcase a range of Black experiences beyond stereotypes. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that Black people are authentically represented in mainstream fiction. In conclusion, Black people have varied reactions to mainstream fiction. Some may feel excluded and marginalized, while others may be frustrated with misrepresentation and harmful stereotypes. However, there is a long history of Black individuals challenging and critiquing mainstream fiction and advocating for more diverse and inclusive storytelling. I found "Blakc people react to msfic" to be incredibly offensive and racially insensitive. The title itself is an obvious play on words that perpetuates negative stereotypes. The content of the video only reinforced these stereotypes, portraying black people as unintelligent and uneducated. It is disheartening to see such a lack of respect and understanding for different cultures and races. I would not recommend this video to anyone.
