The University of Georgia's mascot, popularly known as Uga, is one of the most beloved symbols of the university. Uga is an English Bulldog who has been the official mascot of the Georgia Bulldogs since 1956. Over the years, Uga has become an integral part of the university's sports culture, attending football games and other events in his custom jersey. Sadly, Uga VIII, the eighth in the line of Uga mascots, experienced a tragic incident in 2009. During a pre-game ceremony, Uga VIII, whose name was Big Bad Bruce, was in a metal-framed doghouse, which was designed to look like a ship's steam stack. The plan was to have the doghouse "explode" with smoke and fireworks when Uga VIII was unveiled.
