Exploring the Origins of the Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location

By admin

The amulet of proof against detection and location is a powerful magical item that provides protection against attempts to locate or detect the wearer. It is often used by individuals who wish to remain hidden or invisible to others, such as spies or thieves. The amulet works by creating a magical ward around the wearer that conceals their presence from magical or non-magical attempts at detection. This includes spells or abilities that would normally allow someone to see or sense the wearer, such as invisibility detection or scrying. In addition to providing protection against detection, the amulet also prevents the wearer from being targeted or affected by spells or abilities that require the user to have a clear line of sight or knowledge of the wearer's location. This makes it an invaluable tool for avoiding dangerous or unwanted attention.

Question on Amulet of Proof against dection and location

The question I have is does the amulet make a person totally non-detecable? Example: I have the amulet on and I possess certain magic items on me. does the amulet make it appear that I have no magic on me unless the caster level check is made?

I have a Drow elf in the guise of a wealthy merchantnoble and he wears the amulet to hide his magic items, the illusion of being human and his alignment. It seems like a lot but I need some way to make it happen.

The description of the amulet says it functions as a Nondetection
spell.

The Nondetection spell says "The warded creature or object becomes difficult to detect by Clairaudience/Clairvoyance, Locate Object, and Detect spells."

. "If cast on a creature, nondetection wards the creature's gear as well as the character."

The amulet would protect your magical items against Detect Magic, and your alignment from Detect Chaos/Evil/Good/Law spells, but not the illusion of being a human.

Hope this helps

If you want to hide the fact of him being human, the best way to go in order to circumvent magical detection is to have a very good Disguise skill. Technically speaking the drow would only suffer a -2 to his check for trying to impersonate a human (unless he's trying to impersonate a specific human, which gives harsher penalties). The only thing you have to watch out for here is that darn rogue or ranger with a high Spot skill, but they only get that if they are suspicious.

Depends on the circumstances, but in order to get around magical means of investigation, the Disguise skill is the way to go.

One other idea is to use the Disguise skill to simply change his skin and hair color. After that, us Alter Self or some other type of spell to change his race. If the PC's do use magical means to detect that he is not human and the spell is dispelled, they would see him as an elf. This would give him one more layer of protection, now getting a Bluff check to try to lie his way along that he is a "normal" elf.
