The lights of the city buzz, crisp and neon through the streets, peals of laughter ring out from tourists as they trip over their feet to read the Walk of Fame, the sweet, smoky heat from the cart of a street merchant wafts over the pavement as he sells questionable meat. Born into the former Butchers Barbers, the vintage-adorned space is a bar on one side, and a theater on the other, with ticketed shows on weekends curated by magician Rob Zabrecky.

Black Rabbit Rose Revives the Magic Theater in Hollywood

Twin brothers Mark and Jonnie Houston have outdone themselves again with a mysterious new magic theater and cocktail bar opening February 11 in the heart of Hollywood. Born into the former Butchers & Barbers, the vintage-adorned space is a bar on one side, and a theater on the other, with ticketed shows on weekends curated by magician Rob Zabrecky.

With illusionists, magicians, burlesque dancers, and other performers, it’s perhaps a logical extension of the Houston Brothers’ other spots, like No Vacancy, Dirty Laundry, Pour Vous, and La Descarga, which have always adopted a kind of transformational, spectacle-driven approach to nightlife.

Think of the place like a mini version of the Magic Castle, a legendary industry hangout where dapperly dressed members and their guests enjoy food, drinks, and magic tricks. After the ticketed shows earlier in the evening, Black Rabbit Rose opens up into a larger bar with drinks and impromptu performances.

To sip, one could enjoy a Smoke N’ Mirrors, mixing gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, and smoked hickory or a Bullet Catch, fusing mezcal, lime, honeydew, and habanero tincture. To munch on, Chinese-Thai inflected Crying Tiger, which has a takeout window next door on evenings Black Rabbit Rose is closed, will bring over anything from pork egg rolls, shui mai dumplings, and pad thai to hungry guests. Black Rabbit Rose is open Tuesday to Saturday, with ticketed performances from Thursday to Saturday.

Reviews for "Exploring the Afterlife in Assassin's Creed Origins Curse of the Pharaohs DLC"

1. Sarah - ★★☆☆☆
I was really excited to dive into the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC for AC Origins, but I ended up feeling disappointed. The main issue I had with this expansion is that it felt like more of the same. The gameplay mechanics, missions, and locations didn't offer anything new or refreshing. It was basically a rinse and repeat of what we've seen before in the base game. Additionally, the story felt lackluster and disconnected from the main narrative. Overall, I found the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC to be underwhelming and not worth the price.
2. Michael - ★☆☆☆☆
I regret purchasing the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC for AC Origins. The primary reason for my dissatisfaction is the numerous technical issues I encountered while playing. The game frequently crashed, froze, or had severe frame rate drops. These issues significantly disrupted my enjoyment and immersion in the gameplay experience. Furthermore, the DLC's content felt uninspired and repetitive. It lacked the creativity and depth I expected from an expansion. I would advise others to save their money and skip this DLC.
3. Emma - ★★☆☆☆
Curse of the Pharaohs DLC for AC Origins was a letdown for me. While the addition of a new map and enemies seemed promising, the execution fell short. The new map felt sparse and lacking in interesting locations to explore. The enemies, although visually distinct, didn't provide any significant challenge or variety in combat. Additionally, the story felt disjointed and didn't seamlessly connect with the main narrative. Overall, I found the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC to be a missed opportunity and not worth the time and effort.
4. Alex - ★★★☆☆
I had high hopes for the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC for AC Origins, but unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. The main issue I had was the repetitive nature of the side quests and objectives. After a while, it felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again. Additionally, the difficulty spikes in certain areas were frustrating and felt unfair. The DLC did have some redeeming qualities, such as the visually stunning ancient Egyptian setting, but it wasn't enough to save it from feeling lackluster. If you're a completionist, you might enjoy the added content, but for others, it may not be worth the investment.
