It's that time of year again when the bustling streets of New York City transform into a magical winter wonderland. The city that never sleeps comes to life with sparkling lights, glittering decorations, and an undeniable sense of holiday cheer. As you stroll down Fifth Avenue, you can't help but be captivated by the extravagant displays at famous department stores like Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue. The store windows are adorned with intricate ornaments, whimsical scenes, and even moving characters. A crowd gathers around each window, amazed by the creativity and artistry that goes into these enchanting displays. The iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree stands tall in all its glory, adorned with thousands of twinkling lights and a magnificent star on top.

Each week, students will read a lesson on literary concepts and/or writing techniques followed by a selection of several chapters from the course texts. Students will then apply this knowledge in a reading comprehension quiz that will test their critical reading skills, discuss the book in writing with peers in asynchronous discussion forums, and produce a longer piece of writing that will challenge them to apply analytical, argumentative, and creative writing skills. Units are broken up by week with a Sunday night deadline. Each week, instructors will also provide written feedback that students will apply to their own writing.

Write informative explanatory texts and arguments to support claims to convey ideas clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence. Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and update individual or shared writing products, taking advantage of technology s capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically.

1. Jane - 2/5 stars - I was really disappointed with "A Magical New York Christmas". The storyline felt cliché and predictable. The characters lacked depth and I couldn't connect with any of them. The writing style was also underwhelming, lacking the descriptive language that would have brought the holiday atmosphere to life. Overall, I found this book to be a letdown and wouldn't recommend it to others looking for a magical holiday read.
2. Mark - 1/5 stars - I couldn't even finish "A Magical New York Christmas". The writing was so amateurish and the characters were incredibly one-dimensional. The plot was trite and lacked any originality. I felt like I was reading a cheesy Hallmark movie script. Save yourself the time and skip this book. There are much better Christmas reads out there.
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I had high hopes for "A Magical New York Christmas", but unfortunately, it fell flat for me. The story felt rushed and lacking in substance. The dialogue felt forced and unrealistic, making it difficult to engage with the characters. The concept of a magical Christmas in the bustling New York City was intriguing, but the execution left much to be desired. Overall, I was disappointed with this book and wouldn't recommend it to fellow Christmas book enthusiasts.
4. David - 2/5 stars - "A Magical New York Christmas" was a book that promised so much but failed to deliver. The storyline had potential, but it seemed like the author took the easy way out, relying on predictable plot twists and shallow character development. I found myself skimming through the pages, hoping that something interesting would happen, but nothing ever did. The writing style lacked finesse, with simplistic sentences that failed to evoke any emotional response. Overall, this book was a letdown and didn't live up to the magical Christmas experience I was hoping for.
5. Emily - 3/5 stars - While "A Magical New York Christmas" wasn't the worst holiday read, it certainly wasn't the best either. The plot was predictable, and the characters felt like clichés. The writing style was decent, but it lacked the depth and intricacy that would have captured the magic of Christmas in New York City. While I didn't hate this book, I also wouldn't recommend it unless you're looking for a light, mindless read during the holiday season.
