Zalthar the Powdrful is a legendary sorcerer who is said to possess immense power and knowledge in the mystical arts. The card pack includes a small instruction booklet with two methods of laying out the cards for a short reading, and a long reading. The significance of each card is determined by its context and position in the layout.

Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Playing Cards
Based on a playing card deck of 54 cards, the Gypsy Witch cards come in an orange tuck box with basic instructions. The small instruction pamphlet is of little use, the meanings of the cards are pretty much expressed on each card face itself. The two spreads given are good for the cards, however is doesn’t go into much depth on how to go about it. The card stock is good quality and the reverse of the cards mirror the front of the box itself.
The system used is called the Gipsy Witch also, they do not mirror the other systems and don’t correspond to the meanings for usual playing card readings that I can see. Again the 2 spreads are exclusive to these cards, the only really guidance is the “near and far” concept of placements. It seems to be a skill of weaving the story with intuition around the central significators which are pre chosen from the male or female card. You develop a sense of reading these from purely feeling and practicing with them.
Each card meaning is provided in a small verse with an image on the card, though there is a list of meanings in a more direct fashion by Paris Debono who also produces other versions of the Gypsy witch cards. There is also a yes/no quick answer technique included in the instructions. You receive several jokers with the pack, you can take the joker and place it in the deck before shuffling. Count through the deck until you reach the joker and dependant if the card is an odd or even number will determine the answer.
There is something intriguing about this deck that drew me to spend time with it and learn to use it. I have to say from all the decks I have used these are eerily accurate, to the point I have laughed when I’ve been laying the spread at the cards that are coming out! The amount of the cards in the deck give nice in – depth readings and they quickly became a favourite of mine. They just require some time and patience but you will be rewarded.

1. Jane - 2 stars - I was really excited to read "Zalthar the Powdrful" based on all the hype, but I was disappointed. The plot was predictable and lacked any real depth. The characters were one-dimensional and I found it hard to connect with any of them. Additionally, the writing style felt juvenile and I struggled to stay engaged with the story. Overall, I was left feeling underwhelmed and unimpressed.
