Yule celebrations, also known as Yule or the Winter Solstice, are pagan festivals that take place during the Christmas season. Alternatively, a month is offered each night as a reflection.

Some practitioners of the Northern Tradition will even choose to completely withdraw and go secluded from online mailing lists, bulletin boards, and social media outlets like Facebook so they can stay focused on spending the Yuletide with friends and family. After all, it is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and having a festival to celebrate the return of the sun would make perfect sense.

We often believe that the origin of Yule is lost, however, this is not necessarily the case.

Many of the old ways are simply hidden, in a network of puzzles, poems, and misconceptions. It is liked a blurred image, we can see something, but we are not quite sure what we see.

These feasts bring families and communities together to share in the abundance of the season and to give thanks for the warmth and sustenance provided by the sun. Gift-giving is another common practice during Yule. Many pagans exchange handmade or meaningful gifts, representing the love and appreciation they have for one another. These gifts are often placed under a Yule tree, which is similar to a Christmas tree, and adorned with ornaments that represent nature and the elements. Rituals and ceremonies are also an integral part of Yule celebrations. Pagans may gather in groups or individually to perform rituals that honor the solstice and welcome the return of the sun.
