I was just wondering what a good wage was back in 1939 ( the washer in the sears catalog), that seems expensive for then. I don't think many folks made $1.00 per hour then.
In 1972 a Boeing machinist starting wage was $4.24 an hour.

When the depression of the early 1930 s came the Kissel brothers shut down car manufacturing and turned to making the water Witch engines and other things. I have been collecting Waterwitch outboards for some 25 years, and have done much research to prove that Raymond Loewy had absolutely no hand in the design of the Sears Waterwitch.

I have always liked those Kissel water witch engines, they have a distinct level of class to their design. The flywheel and ignition plate are simply gorgeous. One day I hope to find one to add to my collection. Thank you for sharing your engine, it sure is a nice one!

Back then, many such products were expensive, but customers expected them to be well made and to last.

Reviews for "The Role of Outboard Motors in the Evolution of Water Witches"

1. John - 1 star - I was extremely disappointed with the Watrr witch outboard motor. I bought it hoping for a reliable and efficient motor for my small boat, but it constantly gave me trouble. The motor would often fail to start, and even when it did, it would frequently stall out in the middle of the water. I spent more time trying to fix this motor than actually enjoying my time on the boat. Overall, it was a waste of money and I would not recommend it to anyone.
2. Sarah - 2 stars - The Watrr witch outboard motor was average at best. It was not as powerful as advertised, and I struggled to reach higher speeds even in ideal conditions. Additionally, I found it to be quite noisy and not very fuel-efficient. Considering the price, I expected better performance from this motor. While it was functional and got me from point A to point B, I believe there are much better options available on the market for a similar price.
3. Mark - 2 stars - I found the Watrr witch outboard motor to be subpar in terms of durability. After only a few uses, I started experiencing issues with its performance. The motor would often overheat, causing me to have to stop and wait for it to cool down before continuing. It was incredibly frustrating and disrupted my fishing trips. I ended up replacing it with a different brand and have had much better luck. I would not recommend this motor to anyone who needs something reliable for frequent use.
