When Muriel sends Eustace to sleep on the roof, he drops his glasses and can't see. He thinks that the TV antenna is a monster and the chimney is a snake. Then he falls down the chimney and he thinks Muriel is a monster, so he captures her, takes her on the roof, and makes her eat mushrooms that had started growing on him. Courage goes to find Shirley, and she gives him a mirror that will make Eustace do a kind act that will stop the curse. But Courage breaks the mirror, and only a frame is left. Then Eustace looks at it and sees Courage as a child with no hat, so Eustace gives the hat to the boy/Courage, and the curse goes away. Eustace then has a cold, and Courage still has the hat, so Eustace takes it back and the curse comes back.
