The Never Ending Story Amulet is an ancient artifact that is shrouded in mystery and intrigue. It is said to hold incredible powers and has been sought after by many throughout history. The amulet is believed to be indestructible and has the ability to grant the wearer eternal life. Legends surrounding the amulet tell of its origins in a far-off land, where it was created by a powerful sorcerer. The sorcerer imbued the amulet with his own life force, granting it the ability to bestow immortality upon its wearer. However, the amulet also carries a curse – those who possess it are destined to forever wander the earth, unable to find peace or rest.

Many have believed that by possessing the amulet, they could become all-powerful rulers and live forever.

This is a fan blog for the first The Never Ending Story movie. Made in 1984, loosely based on Michael Ende's book of the same name, directed by Wolfgang Peterson and starring Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver and Tami Stronach.
AURYN is a mystical Ouroboros talisman in The Neverending Story. In the novel, AURYN is always spelled in capital letters and is revered by all Fantasticans, referred to as “The Gem” and “The Glory” (German: das Kleinod, der Glanz). It is a symbol of its mistress, the Childlike Empress, who is also called “The Golden-Eyed Commander of Wishes” in reference to her relationship with AURYN. While the book makes noteworthy the point that the image of AURYN is on its “cover(s)”, it does not actually refer to it as AURYN.
A common misconception is that AURYN is a simple magical object that grants wishes. The truth is that AURYN’s power flows from the Childlike Empress and that it can only be used with her permission. The powerful amulet cannot be used against her and if she does not grant the use of it to someone they are unable to influence AURYN.
The name of the amulet is not the same as that of a simple inanimate object. The word ‘the’ never precedes that amulet’s name (i.e., never “the AURYN”). Instead, it is used simply as AURYN, a proper noun like a person’s name.
Two mythological serpents, symmetrical, bite at the other’s tail. In the book, they form an oval, and are not intertwined. One serpent is white and one is black. Each has an eye to correspond to the color of the book’s print, red and green. The two snakes represent the dual nature of the two worlds, Fantastica and Reality, but also the twin nature of their mutual creation and destruction. On the back of AURYN are these words:

AURYN helps guide Atreyu through Fantastica in his quest to find a cure for the ailing Childlike Empress, and in turn defeat the Nothing. It serves him clandestinely, but does return him to the Ivory Tower. Although Atreyu believes himself to have failed in finding the human child past the borders of Fantastica, the Childlike Empress informs him to the contrary and that indeed the boy had been with him all along.
In the hands of the Childlike Empress, AURYN displays greater powers even in the face of the Nothing. She releases seven spirits to serve her as she ventures across her tattered realm to find the Old Man of Wandering Mountain. They carry her chariot and provide a haven for Atreyu and Falkor within.
Bastian blesses the Childlike Empress with her new name. She presents him with AURYN; her only request being that he follow the instructions written on the back. While it grants him the power to make wishes and imagine more of Fantastica, it drains him of his memories which are his only way back to his world. Bastian searches for the same obscure boundaries of Fantastica, only to realize it is within AURYN itself.
In the mystical interior of AURYN, two gargantuan serpent statues stand sentry, one shining brighter than white, the other darker than black. They guard the Waters of Life, a waterfall and pool that serve as the exit from Fantastica. The statues refuse Bastian’s passage, for he had left many stories unfinished in Fantastica. Atreyu, however, agrees to undertake the quest, which allows Bastian to return to his world. When Bastian touches the waters, their truthful properties dissolve the illusion of his glamour wishes, and he returns to being a fat little boy, instead of a Fantastican prince, but this time he has learned to love himself as he truly is. At this point the snakes of AURYN allow him to return to his world. x

But the amulet does not come without its dangers. As tales of the amulet spread, it began to attract the attention of dark forces. The evil sorcerer, with his insatiable thirst for power, sought to control the amulet for himself. His dark minions would stop at nothing to obtain the amulet and use its powers for their own nefarious purposes. The amulet’s whereabouts became a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few. Those who knew its location were sworn to protect it at all costs, understanding the potential devastation that could occur if it fell into the wrong hands. They formed an ancient order, known as the Guardians of the Amulet, and dedicated themselves to preserving the balance and harmony of the world. Over the years, the Guardians faced numerous challenges and threats in their mission to safeguard the amulet. They battled against dark sorcerers, treacherous traitors, and evil warriors who sought to claim the amulet for themselves. Each time, the Guardians emerged victorious, ensuring that the amulet remained hidden from prying eyes. As time went on, the Never Ending Story Amulet became more than just a physical object. It came to represent hope, a symbol of the eternal struggle between good and evil. Its powers extended beyond mere immortality, granting its wearer wisdom, courage, and resilience. Today, the whereabouts of the amulet remain a mystery. Many believe that it is still hidden, waiting for a worthy successor to reveal its location. 1. Jack - 2 out of 5 stars - I was really disappointed with "Never Endingstery Amulet". The plot was confusing and felt disjointed, and the characters were poorly developed. I found it difficult to connect with any of them and couldn't fully invest myself in the story. Additionally, the writing style was quite lackluster and didn't manage to captivate me. Overall, I was not impressed with this book and wouldn't recommend it to others.
2. Emily - 3 out of 5 stars - "Never Endingstery Amulet" had potential, but it fell flat for me. The concept was intriguing, but the execution was lacking. The pacing was inconsistent, with parts of the book dragging and others feeling rushed. The world-building was also not fully fleshed out, leaving me with questions and confusion. While there were some interesting elements, overall, I found the book to be underwhelming and wouldn't choose to read it again.
3. Chloe - 2.5 out of 5 stars - I had high hopes for "Never Endingstery Amulet", but it didn't live up to my expectations. The characters lacked depth and felt one-dimensional, making it difficult for me to become invested in their journey. The plot was also confusing at times, with unnecessary subplots that didn't add much to the overall story. While there were a few moments of intrigue, they were few and far between. Unfortunately, this book didn't leave a lasting impression on me.
