Step Out in Style with a Boho Chic Witch Hat

By admin

Witch Hat with a Boho Chic Design The witch hat is a staple accessory for any Halloween costume. Traditionally, witch hats are seen as pointy and dark, with a sleek black finish. However, in recent years, there has been a rise in more contemporary and artistic designs for witch hats, including the boho chic style. A boho chic witch hat brings a fresh and unique twist to the traditional witch costume. It embraces a more natural and organic look, incorporating elements of bohemian fashion. These hats often feature earthy tones, such as browns, beiges, and forest greens.

These hats often feature earthy tones, such as browns, beiges, and forest greens. They may also include colorful patterns or intricate embroidery, inspired by traditional boho designs. The boho chic witch hat creates a more whimsical and free-spirited aesthetic.

Make Your Own Seasonal Witch Hat

This Halloween eve I made another witch hat, this time using the measurements/pattern created by my lovely friend Classic Andi (on Instagram). This past year she and I have been making a witch hat for every season. Mine were tall and pointy with a wide brim, hers here short with a narrow brim. I loved her creations and asked her to collaborate on a blog post with me showcasing our individual styles for each of the four seasons. She shared her pattern with me to test and post on the blog, so today I’m sharing the test results and the free downloadable pattern of the witch hat at the end of this post.

Andi sent her measurments to me, and I digitized the pattern to print at home for future use (and for sharing). She and I used similar construction methods, and depending on materials used, slight variations can me made below. I’ve used felt and wool in the past and prefer to use wire in the brim, but in this case I wanted to use fashion fabric so I used stabilizer. More on that in the next section.

NO SEW OPTION If you don’t sew and would prefer a premade hat, skip the next section. I highly recommend the one in the picture above right that I found (and love) on Amazon here: Cotiny 3 Pack Halloween Witch Hat Kinitted Wool Witch Hat Wizard Hat for Women Large Brim Crochet Cap for Halloween Party Cosplay Costume Accessory (Color Set 3)

Instructions

  1. Cut one cone and two circles from the pattern from fashion fabric, felt, or wool
  2. Remove and discard the inner circle on both top and bottom circle pieces
  3. With right sides together, stitch the cone at the back seam and turned the cone right side out.
  4. Then with right sides together stitch the two circles (top and bottom) together along the outside circumference, and turn the brim right sides out
  5. OPTION A to keep the hat from being too floppy, insert craft wire along the edge of the brim between the two circles and zigzag stitch it in place, or OPTION B use fusible foam stabilizer on cone and one circle
  6. Pin the cone to the brim and stitch the two together (the seam allowance can be folded up into the cone or covered with velvet ribbon hot glued to the messy bits)

Supplies

As much as I like to sew, I love to hot glue, so this will always be my favorite part: trimming!! This is where you can let your personality and creative genius shine! I love to use a combination of ribbon sliders or buckles, ribbon, feathers, and flowers (links below to some of my faves)…and if I have something laying around the house (ahem holiday decor), I tend to snip and glue some of that stuff on hats too. ‘Tis the season!

If you’re no stranger to the blog you’ll recognize my love of pine cones. I started out testing this pattern for a simple black witch hat, but ended up trimming it with fall decor and I’m so in love with how it turned out. Sometimes the art drives the artist, am I right?

My fellow costuming friend Tina was here for the pattern testing, so she made a peacock blue dupioni witch hat with, of course, peacock feathers! We had so much fun raiding my craft cabinet and just getting really extra with our designs! Both our hats were a tad too small for our heads, so we added the ribbon to tie at the back of our heads and they are very comfortable. We’re even talking about designing 18th century robe en chemise outfits to go with our new witch hats.

Coming soon and before fall is a distant memory, I’ll share Classic Andi‘s and my individual styles for each of the four seasons in the first of two (or more?) Seasons of the Witch posts starting with our witch hats. When that’s published I’ll add the link here. Happy Halloween!

Disclaimer: this pattern makes a small hat that fits a size small adult head, or will sit on top of a larger head…so make a mock-up and adjust accordingly! Size medium may only need a seam allowance added (highly recommended).

Reviews for "Upgrade Your Witchy Attire with a Boho Chic Hat"

- Sarah - 2/5 stars - I was really disappointed with the witch hat with a boho chic design. The quality of the hat was really poor, it looked and felt cheap - nothing like the picture. The colors were also not as vibrant as I had expected. Overall, I would not recommend this hat to anyone looking for a stylish and well-made witch hat.
- Mark - 1/5 stars - This witch hat with a boho chic design was a total waste of money. The sizing was completely off, it was way too small for my head even though I ordered the correct size according to the chart. The materials used were also subpar, with loose threads and a flimsy structure. I was really disappointed with this purchase and I would not recommend it to anyone.
- Emily - 2/5 stars - I had high hopes for this witch hat with a boho chic design, but it fell short of my expectations. The hat arrived with several noticeable stains and the overall quality was poor. The design itself looked messy and not as stylish as I had hoped. I returned it immediately and would not recommend it to others.
