House Competition

I believe that a person that belongs to house Pukwudgie is generally a kind person. This is the house for the people that will follow their hearts over their minds. The act first and think later people. I firmly believe this.

A Pukwudgie is going to stand up for those that can’t stand up for themselves. They are the activists, the people brave enough to go hand out sandwiches and blankets to the homeless. They are healers and that stems further than just the act of ailing wounds. They’re people that our out healing the world as much as they are healing people literally. I also believe that they are generally fiercely loyal friends to have.

That being said the main criteria for Pukwudgie seems to be the element of the heart. So even if a person doesn’t necessarily fit all of these things I’ve said, if they make choices with their gut or their heart they likely belong in this house. That is one of the things I rather like about Ilvermorny’s sorting system is that it embodies a whole person which breeds diversity. A person you may look at on the surface and go they’re probably a thug, and may very well be, but is because in their heart they believe they’re right to act in such way could be a Pukwudgie just as much as the traits I’ve already outlined. The answer lies in the way a person views their actions and their world and that is what they are judged for in the sorting ceremony.

But mostly I return to the first thing I said, I believe to be a Pukwudgie you are a person that protects and gives back freely. They don’t do things for glory but quite plainly do them to help those who can’t help themselves. That’s what I believe anyway.

@ilvermornyschoolofmagic Hello I am a Pukwudgie and I saw your writing about “Pukwudgie traits” earlier and I have some things to share with you. On one hand, I love your posts. They are well-written and pleasant to read. However, I have to disagree with you on some of the traits thing. There is not and cannot be four flavors of people when it comes to magic-folk. J.K. Rowling realizes this. The Ilvermorny houses’ descriptions were made vague because of this. The point of why they are so vague is that J.K. Rowling is telling us that in order to fit into any house is to just be ourselves- we don’t have to follow a list of traits restricting us like we did for Hogwarts houses.
Yet Harry Potter fans of all shapes and sizes would go to the grave painting Ilvermorny houses the same way they did Hogwarts houses. People paint Horned-Serpent as Ravenclaw, people paint Pukwudgie as Hufflepuff- Wampus as Gryffindor- Thunderbird as Slytherin.. I’m sure you’ve seen the fan-made Ilvermorny house crests floating around the internet. They literally just took Hogwarts house crests and edited them to have Ilvermorny mascots. I’m not even doubting they got the artists permission to use those images. Heck, they even color-coded the crests to have Hogwarts house colors- many of which are not Ilvermorny colors. The colors they put on the Pukwudgie crest will shock no one(hint: yellow and black). Many people just don’t want to realize the schools are very different…
As a Pukwudgie, people think we’re sweet and selfless healers- but the problem is I am actually quite far from sweet or selfless. I’m bitter, sarcastic, and I don’t have the obligation to help everyone I see injured. I know that may seem immoral and against the fan-made “Pukwudgie Code of Hospitality” but that is how I am.
I’m not here to stop you or anyone from making “house traits” because you can write the hell you want. I just feel the need to spread the idea that within each house is diversity in mind, body, heart, and soul. If anyone wants to be uncreative and make Ilvermorny houses the same as Hogwarts houses, they’re closing doors to many possibilities and ideas.. Our own houses are what we make them. Our school is what we make it. Let’s act like it.

Honestly, I think we agree more than we disagree on this point. I struggle with these asks because I want to focus on how the houses are different. American. Ours. And not Hogwarts. I will admit in reading your reply I feel as though I have failed quite heavily at that when really I was just expanding upon what we knew with an ideal.

As one Pukwudgie to another, I’m pretty sure I’m with you in the violation of the hospitality department. I curse like a sailor and often hold the view of: you did it to yourself, in a lot of situations that are bleak. Which is why I try to focus more on how a person is sorted into a house than the traits themselves.

I do, however, still think there is an ideal to each house which is the guideline I use to answer these asks. It’s the first image you get when you hear healer, warrior, adventurer, or academic. Or even mind, body, heart and soul. That’s what the house strives for. However, like I’ve said in both of my asks, and will repeat again for Thunderbird and Horned Serpent is how you view the world or react to it determines which house you belong to. I react with my heart. I’m not a bleeding heart type but I do “follow my heart” whether the outcome is good or bad. And I’ve seen that thread with pretty much every friend I have and how they were sorted no matter how wildly different they are as individuals.

So I guess, really these ask answers are my attempt to give a guideline to the ideal but that doesn’t mean it’s the whole picture. Not by a long shot because nothing is that simple. And for an ask answer, that’s an incredibly hard concept to get across in a few short paragraphs. Truly, I could go on forever. Which makes all of the ‘trait’ asks I could get (because I have a few lying in wait that I’m thinking on how to answer) hard to tackle because I could simply say what I’ve just stated and leave it at that because I don’t think you’re wrong: the sorting lies on the person being sorted alone and what they believe is right for them.

And as an aside, I really don’t like the fan made stuff that just puts Ilvermorny on Hogwarts. It bothers me so completely because we’ve always wanted Hogwarts and she gave it to us, why is it so bad that it’s different? I think it should be. The ideals we fans see in our own houses because of Hogwarts are not such a bad thing, but it is certainly not the full story. Not by a long shot.

Reviews for "The Enigmatic Charm of Surf Curse: Live in Concert"

- Sasha - 1 star:
I recently attended a Surf Curse live concert and it was a complete disappointment. The lead singer's vocals were off-key the entire time, and the band seemed completely unenthused to be there. The energy of the crowd was also extremely low, which made the atmosphere dull and boring. I had high expectations for this show, but it fell short in every aspect. I wouldn't recommend seeing Surf Curse live if you're expecting a memorable and engaging performance.
- Mike - 2 stars:
I've been a fan of Surf Curse for a while now, but their live performance was a letdown. The sound quality was terrible, with the instruments overpowering the vocals and making it difficult to understand the lyrics. The band also lacked stage presence and didn't engage with the audience at all. It felt like they were just going through the motions without putting any effort into connecting with the fans. Overall, I expected more from Surf Curse live and left the concert feeling disappointed.
- Emily - 2 stars:
I was really excited to see Surf Curse live, but the concert was a bit underwhelming. The band seemed a bit sloppy and out of sync, which made the performance feel unprofessional. The lead singer's voice also didn't sound as good live as it does on their recordings, which was a disappointment. Additionally, the setlist felt a bit repetitive, with very little variation in the songs played. While I still enjoy Surf Curse's music, I wouldn't prioritize seeing them live again.
- Jason - 1 star:
I've seen Surf Curse live twice now, and both times I was thoroughly unimpressed. The band lacks the energy and enthusiasm necessary to put on an engaging show. The lead singer's vocals are often flat and out of tune, and the overall sound quality is subpar. It feels like they're just going through the motions without any passion. I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on a Surf Curse live concert if you're looking for an exciting and memorable experience.
