The Wheel of the Year: Understanding the Summer Solstice in Wicca

By admin

Summer solstice is a significant event celebrated by Wiccans all over the world. This day, also known as Midsummer, marks the longest day of the year and the official start of the summer season. Wiccans believe that the energy during the solstice is at its peak, and they take this opportunity to connect with nature and celebrate the changing seasons. One of the main traditions associated with the summer solstice in Wicca is the practice of gathering herbs and flowers. Wiccans believe that the plants are infused with powerful energy during this time, and they use these herbs and flowers for various magical purposes. They might create bundles or garlands to hang in their homes, or use them in spellwork and rituals.

Legendary Witch (Korean Drama 2014)

This drama is about four innocent women who were imprisoned for false accusations and reasons that only they can explain but since society and the judicial system had already given their verdict, they are left behind prison bars. Amidst their dreary conditions of their confinement – Soo In, Bok Nyeo, Pung Geum and Mi Oh found solace from each other and bonded over their common problems. Despite not being blood relatives, they became a family inside and outside of the correctional facility and set off to seek justice against the people who tried to harm them.

Since half of the story line of this drama is about baking, I would like to compare this to a sponge cake whipped with lots of cliche white icing all over. Then add great acting by the cast as a strawberry topping and sprinkle with light cinnamon flavored OST. Tada! You get a taste of Strawberry Short cake drama in return.

The Legendary Witch is a drama appropriate for middle aged woman, mothers and single parents but it doesn’t mean it cannot be watched by people who doesn’t fit this description. It’s just that these set of viewers will very much relate with the drama’s story line. Admittedly there were a lot of cliches and short comings in this drama which I wouldn’t mind skipping. Adding to that is also the part in which the story could have ended at episode 30 but they made a really unbelievable twist which pissed me off big time! However, it was eventually redeemed at around episode 37 but still not quite forgivable. What really made up for my nit picking about this drama is the fact that they gathered good main actors together (minus Ha Suk Jin who played as Han Ji Hye’s love interest, yes he’s really really good looking but he doesn’t give me enough feels in this drama and acting wise – he still has more room for improvement… but this doesn’t mean he’s not an eye candy! Because he totally is! I like how all the four ladies complemented each other and supported one another with the kind of acting which others lacked.

Ji Hye’s character as Moon Soo In was such a pain for being the kind of woman who attracts trouble due to her naivety, she’s simply too nice for her own good. Half of the time I want to strangle her for her stupidity and the other half I want to hug her and ask why was she born under unlucky stars. Thank goodness there’s the old lady Shim Bok Nyeo to pick her up even though her own life is broken into bits and pieces by being convicted with arson and familicide. She lost her husband and son through fire but she still has room to act as a mother to girls like Soo In, Seo Mi Oh and Son Pung Geum. One got impregnated by a mama’s boy and the other lived as a con-seductress to mooch off money from rich men. Ah… the complicated life of these women. It’s hard to fathom how they got together as a family but they did it anyway and more successfully than the blood related ones.

Aside from the main characters, there are two side characters whom I have taken note of and is dear to my heart. First is Ma Joo Ran acted by Byun Jung Soo. This woman is seriously nuts, almost like her dad. Her character is really really over the top of a spoiled middle aged woman who has a mind set of a teenager. Jung Soo played this character with flying colors and she’s very much effective in it. She made me want to tear her hair out and feel bad for her at the same time. Secondly there’s Kim Yeong Ok aka Ono Yoko played by Kim Soo Mi. This old woman almost killed me from all the air I released from laughing. She’s annoyingly loud and really childish for a woman who’s supposed to be 80 years old, but oh man… she definitely gave me the laughs with all of her antics. This supporting actress is one of the high lights of this show. I might also re-watch some parts of this drama solely because of her.

Having said all that, I’m giving it 8/10 because the drama affected me in a way I shouldn’t and it got me to laugh, cry and get pissed off all at the same time. Hence, I’m recommending it to people who would have the patience to watch all 40 episodes and willing to feel what I felt about the drama.

Ratings For “The Legendary Witch” Continue to Rise, Can It Break into the 30s?

On January 8, a press conference for ongoing MBC weekend drama “The Legendary Witch” was held at the Golden Mouse hotel in Seoul. The cast members, including Han Ji Hye, Ha Seok Jin, Oh Hyun Kyung, Lee Jong Won, and Ha Yeon Soo, were in attendance.

Han Ji Hye said, “I am grateful to viewers for their love. There is a very comfortable and positive dynamic on set.”

The first episode of “The Legendary Witch,” which aired on October 25 of last year, recorded a 16 percent viewership rating, but within six episodes broke 20 percent. By the 16th episode, the drama had broken 25 percent and has been increasing steadily towards 30 percent.

The most recent episode (episode 22) of “The Legendary Witch,” recorded its highest viewership rating yet, hitting 29.9 percent according to the TNMS Seoul capital area standard. This was a 0.2 percent increase from the previous episode, which recorded 29.7 percent. According to the 2049 viewership standard (the primary standard used by advertisers as it focuses on a target audience of 20-49 year olds), the drama snagged an impressive 12.1 percent.

“The Legendary Witch” is about four women who are convicted of a variety of crimes including murder, attempted murder, stock price manipulation, and fraud. They meet when they are incarcerated in the same prison cell, cell 10 on the second floor. In prison, they learn how to bake and set up a bakery that soon rivals the bakery of a huge conglomerate.

They might create bundles or garlands to hang in their homes, or use them in spellwork and rituals. Bonfires are also a central aspect of summer solstice celebrations in Wicca. The bonfires represent the sun's energy and are believed to purify and cleanse the surrounding area.

Summer solstic wiccab traditions

Wiccans may jump over the bonfire as a symbolic act of leaving behind any negativity or baggage from the previous months. Wiccans often perform rituals and ceremonies during the summer solstice to honor the sun and the earth. These rituals typically involve chanting, drumming, and dancing in a circle. They may also include offerings to deities associated with the sun, such as Apollo or Ra. The summer solstice is also seen as a time for fertility and abundance in Wiccan traditions. Some Wiccans may partake in rituals focusing on these themes, such as creating fertility charms or performing spells related to attracting abundance into their lives. Overall, the summer solstice holds great importance to Wiccans and is a time of celebration, connection to nature, and spiritual growth. It is a time to honor the sun and all the blessings that the season of summer brings..

Reviews for "Cleansing and Renewal: Purification Rituals for Wiccan Summer Solstice"

1. Sarah - 1 star - This book was a complete disappointment. I was expecting to learn about the summer solstice and Wiccan traditions, but instead, I was greeted with a poorly written and confusing mess. The author jumped from topic to topic without any clear flow or organization. The instructions for the rituals were vague and unclear, leaving me feeling frustrated and confused. Overall, I found this book to be a waste of time and money.
2. Mark - 2 stars - I had high hopes for "Summer Solstice Wiccan Traditions," but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The content lacked depth and failed to provide any unique or insightful information about the subject matter. The writing style was dull and lifeless, making it difficult to engage with the material. I was particularly disappointed with the lack of practical advice or guidance. While there were some interesting historical tidbits scattered throughout, they were not enough to make up for the overall lackluster nature of the book.
3. Emily - 2 stars - As someone who has been practicing Wicca for several years, I found "Summer Solstice Wiccan Traditions" to be repetitive and overly simplistic. The author seemed to assume that the reader had no prior knowledge of Wicca or the summer solstice, which made the book feel like it was written for beginners only. The rituals and spells presented were basic and didn't offer anything new or innovative. I was hoping for a more in-depth exploration of the summer solstice from a Wiccan perspective, but unfortunately, this book didn't provide that.
