From the Gridiron to the Big Screen: "Poe's" Cinematic Appearances

By admin

The Baltimore Ravens have a lovable and iconic mascot named Poe. Poe, named after the famous author Edgar Allan Poe who spent some of his early years in Baltimore, is a costumed raven who represents the team's spirit and represents the proud tradition of the city. Poe is unique among NFL mascots as he is the only one to be named after a literary figure. This decision to name the mascot after Edgar Allan Poe was intentional, as it aligns with the team's dedication to the city's history and culture. Poe is a symbol of strength, intelligence, and fearlessness, qualities that the team strives for on the football field. The character of Poe can be seen at every Ravens home game, interacting with fans and engaging in entertaining activities.

Ravens' mascot. Poe, carted off field at halftime after being hurt against AAU team

The Ravens had to bring out the cart during their preseason matchup against the Commanders. But it wasn't for a player.

Instead, it was for Poe, the team's mascot, who appeared to suffer a leg injury at halftime during an exhibition against a Baltimore AAU youth football team. Poe was examined by trainers and then driven to the locker room.

Trainers supported Poe's left leg as the mascot was being lifted onto the cart.

Poe had been playing in a game with fellow mascots at halftime of Ravens vs. Commanders. The Ravens won the game 17-15 and extended their preseason winning streak to 23. No final score was reported in the AAU match, but Poe did throw a touchdown pass to a fellow Baltimore mascot.

Poe made a miraculous return to the field after the incident, although it's most likely that the team brought in its second-string mascot to fill in for the injured started.

Poe made a victory trip to UD's Newark campus on Friday, July 11, showing off the jersey of UD alumnus Joe Flacco, who recently joined the Ravens.

“This was a win for the organization that is the Baltimore Ravens, a win for the city of Baltimore, a victory for Ravens fans near and far, young and old!” Poe exclaimed.

“This is a victory for all us with feather laden wings, thick flowing manes, rigid scaly fins, jagged sharp claws, long pointy horns,” Poe said. “This is for those of us with the oversized shoes to fit our paws, hooves and talons in. This is a victory for true mascots of the NFL!”

Poe, named after Edgar Allen Poe, took down Steely McBeam, the Pittsburgh Steelers' mascot, and T.D. the Dolphin, Miami's mascot, in each case with an overwhelming 70 percent of the votes. His final foe in the conference finals was Billy Buffalo, representing the Bills, whom Poe plucked out with 53 percent of the votes.

Reviews for "Behind the Beak: The Training and Preparation of the Baltimore Ravens Mascot"

1. John - 1 star
I was really disappointed with the Baltimore Ravens mascots Poe. The costume looked cheap and poorly made, and it was hard to even recognize which bird it was supposed to be. The interaction with the fans was also lacking, with Poe seeming disinterested and unenthusiastic. Overall, it was a letdown and I expected much more from the Ravens' official mascot.
2. Emily - 2 stars
I attended a Baltimore Ravens game and was not impressed with the mascot Poe. The costume was bulky and awkward, making it difficult for the person inside to move around and interact with fans. Poe's actions seemed forced and scripted, lacking the genuine excitement and energy that I've seen in other team mascots. It was a missed opportunity to engage with fans and create a memorable experience.
3. Daniel - 2 stars
Poe, the mascot of the Baltimore Ravens, just didn't do it for me. The costume was cumbersome and looked outdated, which made it hard to relate to. The mascot's performance during halftime wasn't impressive either, with lackluster dance moves and uncoordinated interactions with the crowd. I expected a more lively and entertaining mascot, but Poe fell short of my expectations.
4. Sarah - 1 star
As a die-hard Baltimore Ravens fan, I was incredibly disappointed with the mascot Poe. The costume looked cheap and poorly designed, lacking the attention to detail that fans deserve. Poe's interactions with the crowd were also lackluster, and it felt like he was just going through the motions rather than genuinely connecting with the fans. The Ravens could definitely do better in terms of their mascot representation.
5. Michael - 2 stars
I found the Baltimore Ravens mascot Poe to be underwhelming. The costume looked outdated and the movements were stiff and unnatural. Poe's attempts at engaging with the crowd seemed forced and lacked the excitement and enthusiasm that I've seen from other mascots in the league. It's a shame because a good mascot can really enhance the fan experience, but Poe fell short in that regard.
